WASHINGTON, D.C. The city experienced two separate shooting incidents over the weekend that have left the community reeling.

In one incident, near Decades nightclub on Connecticut Avenue, six people were injured by gunfire. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Rennwel Mantock from Hyattsville, Maryland, has been taken into custody by law enforcement.

According to reports, the shooting took place late Friday night, around 11:21 p.m. Three men and two women were among those wounded, with injuries described as non-life threatening. A fourth man sustained a minor graze wound and did not require hospitalization.

Thanks to the help of witnesses, the police swiftly located Mantock and apprehended him at the scene. They also recovered a firearm believed to be used in the shooting.

Mantock now faces serious charges, including assault with intent to kill and possession of unregistered firearms and ammunition.

In a separate incident earlier that same weekend, tragedy struck on U Street in Northwest D.C. A 43-year-old man named Kenneth Goins from Salisbury, Maryland, was shot and killed.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 1:12 a.m., discovering Goins suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspects in the U Street shooting remain at large. Authorities are searching for two males, one of whom was reportedly wearing a white or gray sweatshirt and riding a motorcycle.

The investigation into this incident, as well as the shooting near Decades nightclub, is ongoing.

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information to come forward, stressing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining public safety.

"The Mayor’s Office of Nightlife and Culture is aware of the two violent incidents that occurred this past weekend in and around our nightlife venues on U Street and Connecticut Ave NW. Law enforcement responded promptly to these incidents. Both areas are covered by the District’s Multiagency Nightlife Public Safety Taskforce, which was active during the weekend," said Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice Lindsey Appiah.

"Mayor Bowser continues to prioritize reducing violent crime, as evidenced by the ongoing efforts of the Taskforce, the recent passage of Secure DC, and strong public safety funding in the Mayor’s proposed FY2025 budget. We remain committed to collaborating with businesses and residents to enhance public safety in our commercial districts, which are vital to maintaining our community’s growth and quality of life. Violent crime across the District is down 25% and total crime is down 15% compared to this time last year." Appiah concluded.

Raconteur

Those guns just keep jumping off of the tables, stalking people and shooting them. If we ban them, they'll stop doing that! /sarc/. Maybe we should try "criminal control" instead of "gun control"? Nah! who ever thought of such foolishness? Never work! All we have to do is disarm the law abiding victims and the gun violence will end! Yeah. /sarc/
