In Memoriam Chief Randy Boykin

March 20, 2013 in Featured, Gone But Never Forgotten, In the Line of Duty, Officer Down, Posts, Traffic Accident by Patrick Sharkey

Randy Boykin, 50, Enterprise Police Department Chief, started his day just like any other day.

Following a long law enforcement career, he served as a small town eastern Mississippi police chief.  He began his day directing traffic at a main intersection of Highway 513 and River Road, assisting grammar school children headed for school.

At 7 a.m., a vehicle raced through the intersection.  Chief Boykin protected the children by shouting at them to move, while he himself was struck instead.  EMS was called and Chief Boykins was air lifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, but he died on the way.

Corporal Andy West of the Mississippi Highway Patrol stated the driver of the Charger was later located and identified as 31 year old Bridgette D. Burns.  The vehicle has been impounded and she is in custody. The continuing investigation is being conducted by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Chief Boykin served Enterprise as chief for 12 years. He also worked part time as a Clarke County Sheriff Deputy just to provide for his family.  He died as he lived, protecting the vulnerable.  Chief, you will never be forgotten.  EOW: Tuesday, March 19, 2013
