Lt. Holly Francisco, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department has reported that 42 year old Special Agent Myron W. Chisem was shot and killed some time after 9:00 pm Wednesday evening.

Chisem’s 14 year old son called the L.A. County Sheriff Department and reported the shooting shortly before 9:30 pm.

Chisem was a Federal Immigration & Customs Enforcement Agent assigned to the Los Angeles Homeland Security and Investigations office.  He joined the ICE / HSI Service in 2007.

Following the preliminary investigation and statements made by Chisem’s 14 year old son, who has not been identified, has been arrested and charged with Chisem’s murder.  A motive for the shooting is not clear, but it is believed to be a domestic situation of some type.  He remains in custody at an L.A. County Juvenile Detention Facility.

Preliminary reports indicated that Special Agent Chisem suffered a single gunshot wound to the upper body.  Some reports more specifically indicate he was shot in the head, however those details have not been confirmed.

Very little information and specific details are being released, however initial public statements confirm that the shot was fired through a window from the back yard of the residence into the family room where Chisem was watching television.  The weapon, was Chisem’s duty issued .40 caliber pistol that was recovered from the front yard of the residence.

A close friend of Chisem’s, who asked not to be identified, stated that he has known Chisem since his service in the U.S. Navy.  He stated that Chisem had a good father-son relationship and that he had never observed any tension between them for any reason.  He is totally shocked and blown away by the situation and circumstances.

ICE Director John Morton also confirmed the death of Chisem and called the situation a total tragedy.

5:16 am in Featured, Officer Down, Posts by Patrick Sharkey

The Providence, Rhode Island Police Department sadly reports that Officer Max Dorley, age 42, was killed in a vehicle crash.  He was a 15-year veteran of the department.  He was responding to assist another officer on a disturbance call. Dorley had his emergency lights and siren activated as he was traveling on Admiral Street near Providence College.

Two vehicles pulled over to the side of the road, allowing him to pass. A third vehicle made an abrupt left turn in front of him. Dorley swerved to the right to avoid the turning vehicle. He lost control of his patrol car, left the roadway, and struck a telephone pole head on. The pole broke in half and fell on top of the patrol car.

The Jaws of Life were used to extricate him from his vehicle.  He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he died a short time later due to his injuries.

Dorley leaves behind a wife and two children that mourn his death.

In Memoriam Police Officer Jaime Padron

6:16 pm in Featured, Gone But Never Forgotten, Officer Down, Police Officer KIlled, Posts by Patrick Sharkey

Austin Texas Police Chief Art Acevedo has sadly reported that one of his officers, Jaime Padron, was shot and killed in the line of duty at a local Wal-Mart Store located on Parmer Lane near Interstate 35.

Officer Padron, age 41, was responding to an intoxicated person inside the store at about 2:30 a.m.  Immediately upon Officer Padron’s arrival, the suspect started to fight with him and drew a 9mm caliber pistol.  Officer Padron was fatally shot in the neck.  The attack on Padron was instantaneous upon his arrival. He didn’t have an opportunity to draw his own service weapon in an attempt to defend himself.

In an amazing act of courage, two Wal-Wart employees tackled the suspect, disarmed him, and detained him until additional officers arrived and took the suspect into custody.

The store was immediately placed in a “lock down” status until the alleged killer was under control.  Chief Acevedo praised the actions of the store employees.  The entire altercation and shooting was caught on the store’s video security system.  The suspect has not been publicly identified pending completion of the investigation and formal charges being filed.

Officer Padron served with the Austin Texas Police Department for 3 years.  His prior law enforcement carrier included serving at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and San Angelo Police Department for several years.  He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He is survived by two daughters.  Officer Jamie Pardon, gone but never forgotten.

Officer Steven Green died in the line of duty in Mobile Alabama while transporting a prisoner.  He was stabbed to death by a prisoner just outside the Mobile County Detention Center.

Earlier in the day, Lawrence Wallace had attempted to rob a Mobile area Dollar General Store and, when he was unsuccessful, poured lighter fluid all over the counter and lit it on fire.   Wallace was arrested by an off-duty Mobile officer and booked at the police department.

After Wallace stabbed Officer Green, he took his service weapon and vehicle to Dauphin County, Alabama.  A shootout ensued following a police chase, after Wallace holed up in a home.  Officer Mark Johnson was shot by Wallace during the pursuit, treated at a local hospital, and released.  Suspect Lawrence Wallace was killed during the stand-off in the home.

No information was immediately available about how Wallace was able to obtain or retain the knife used to murder Officer Green.  He has an extensive criminal history.

Officer Green is survived by his wife and children to mourn his sad loss.  Team LET prays for his family and for the officers of the Mobile Alabama Police Department.  Rest in peace, brother in blue.

Cop’s Alleged Shooter Cries Police Brutality

11:44 am in Featured, In the Line of Duty, News, Officer Down, Officer Safety, Uncategorized by Lt. Maureen O'Hara

Officer Kevin Brennan lies in a hospital bed in severe pain after taking a shot to the head on Tuesday night.  Brennan, a new father, is assigned to Brooklyn’s 9-0 Precinct.  He is lucky to be alive, but faces a long road to recovery.

Luis “Baby” Ortiz is charged with this crime and is also a suspect in New York City’s first murder of 2012.  He has 14 prior arrests in New York City.  The 21 year old admitted Latin Kings gang member’s attorney, Eric Poulos, is concerned because Ortiz has some facial bruising and chipped a tooth.  Poulos is alleging police brutality and states that there is no proof Ortiz is the gunman.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly believes otherwise and states that the department has high-resolution surveillance video documentation of the incident.  Three eyewitnesses have provided the police with their statements.  Significant ballistic evidence has also been recovered.

Ortiz didn’t look any worse for the wear as he mugged for cameras during his perp walk and encouraged reporters to take his picture in the courtroom.  He blew kisses to all his supporters and mouthed, “I love the Latin Kings,” while before the judge.  It was clear that Ortiz considers himself quite the celebrity.  Officer Brennan’s brother and sister police officers witnessing Ortiz’ courtroom antics were not amused.

Perhaps being an ignorant, murderous, lawless thug is somehow in Ortiz’ gene pool. New York City media reports indicate that Ortiz’ family members were yelling “F*ck the police” and “I hate the f*cking police” following his arraignment.    Supporters chased after the squad car taking Ortiz to Riker’s Island, pelting it with plastic bottles as it pulled away.

Assistant District Attorney Lewis Lieberman said it best.  “This was an evil act done by an evil person.”

An infamous Spanish curse, “Andate a la puta te que parrio,” roughly translated means “return to the prostitute that gave you birth.”  Somehow this curse seems more like a proverb when applied to Ortiz. His whole family appears to be twisted. Perhaps the police should have taken him to the Fresh Kills landfill in New York City instead of Riker’s.  Someone needs to take out the garbage.

NYPD Officer Luckiest Cop Ever

3:49 pm in Featured, Officer Down, Posts, Shots Fired by Lt. Maureen O'Hara

NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly hasn’t had an easy time of it in recent weeks.  However, in a news conference Wednesday, the Commissioner was all smiles and happy to hold up the glass jar containing the bullet removed from the head of a Brooklyn-based NYPD officer who lived.

Officer Kevin Brennan responded to a shots fired 911 call on Tuesday night.  When Brennan and two other officers arrived, they chased three individuals out of a building. During the ensuing chase, Brennan followed Luis Ortiz into another building.  Ortiz fired and hit Officer Brennan at the base of the skull.  Physicians were able to remove the bullet successfully via his right ear.  Although Brennan is in critical condition and faces weeks in the hospital, he is expected to make a full recovery.  He has a lot to live for, his wife is a new mother.

Ortiz was already wanted for questioning in the New Year’s murder of Shannon McKinney and is in police custody.  A revolver was recovered at the scene.
