KNOXVILLE, TN - A man in his fifties was arrested and charged after his wife was found dead outside a home on Jefferson Avenue on Saturday evening, May 23, according to the Knoxville Police Department (KPD).
The alleged suspect, 53-year-old Shervon Johnson, faces charges including second-degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a weapon, News5 reported. Officers went to the backyard of a home on the 2700 block of Jefferson Avenue around 5:30 p.m. and found the victim, 52-year-old Lakeisha Johnson, dead from an apparent gunshot, police said.
After reviewing surveillance footage, investigators said that the victim's husband, Shevron Johnson, was the suspect. Officers learned that Shervon Johnson was likely on Ball Camp Road. Community Engagement Response Team officers went to that location just before midnight and took him into custody without further incident, according to KPD.
Police are still investigating the circumstances around the incident. According to court records, days before the victim's death, she texted family members to say that if something happened, her husband did it. Court records also said that law enforcement believes Shevron Johnson disabled all the cameras around the home before he fled.
In a separate incident, KPD is asking for the public's help in finding a man after a "violent domestic assault" at a home on Kenilworth Lane that took place on Wednesday, May 20, according to News5. The alleged suspect, 24-year-old Andrew Scott Dean, is wanted on charges of attempted second-degree murder and child abuse, neglect, or endangerment, KPD said.
Police are encouraging anyone who might know where Dean is or have any information to call the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 877-363-8847.
