NEW ALBANY, OH - Law Enforcement authorities in Ohio announced Wednesday that Bruce Reginald Foster III, suspect in the mass shooting at the KDC/One manufacturing plant that left one person dead and five injured was successfully taken into custody Tuesday at approximately 10:30 p.m.
As reported by Fox News, Foster was arrested after officers executed a search warrant on an apartment in Columbus, OH. The suspect had reportedly fled after opening fire at the cosmetic manufacturer’s plant in New Albany before fleeing the scene leading to a widespread manhunt for the suspect on Wednesday morning that culminated in his capture according to a press release.
"He had been at work for some time when this occurred. We don’t have any reports that there was any issue – that he was in an area that he wasn’t supposed to be, or he was in trouble in any way or there was any conflict," New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones told the outlet. "It is not to say there wasn’t something, but after interviewing everybody we have -- and the supervisor of the company – we don’t have any reports of anything like that."
The police chief described the shooting at the KDC/One plant as a “targeted attack.”
"This is tragedy that – to be honest with you – I never thought we would see in our community," he added Wednesday morning. The chief told reporters that a handgun was recovered from the scene of the shooting.
The five surviving victims were transported to area hospitals and their condition was not known at the time of the report. Per The Columbus Dispatch, Foster has been charged with aggravated murder.
The gunman’s motive is still unknown but he is considered the lone suspect in connection to the shooting. He may have received a ride from the scene Jones told reporters adding that the New Albany Police Department is requesting anyone with information that could assist the investigation contact them at 614-855-1234.
New Albany Mayor Sloan Spalding said in a statement, "We may never know the reason that drove this individual to undertake these horrible acts, but regrettably, this pattern is too common in our country and we must do better, we must do more to support each other, to lend a hand to a friend or colleague or a coworker who is clearly in need."
