Wisconsin man busted for impersonating a Border Patrol agent twice in one week

MUSKEGO, WI - The Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office announced that prosecutors are charging a New Berlin man, Hank Glembin, 34, with two counts of identity theft and impersonating a peace officer for allegedly claiming to be a U.S. Customs and Border Protection, donning a false-uniform and presenting a counterfeit ID to police.

A criminal complaint obtained by Fox6Now revealed that on January 25th  a Muskego police officer responded to a call for a deer struck by a motorist. Arriving the officer found the driver, Glembin who offered to assist her. When the officer asked Glembin if he was with the Muskego Dept. of Public Works he reportedly responded, "I'm off duty right now, I'm with border patrol."

Prosecutors said in the complaint that Glembin was wearing a black hat stitched with “CBP” as well as a black jacket, khaki pants, a green duty vest, and a black duty belt. On several items "DHS," "CBP-BPA," and "Agent H.D. Glembin," were visible. He also carried a handcuff case and firearm, which “appeared legitimate” to the officer. She further reported that he presented her with an ID card with his photo which said “Department of Homeland Security.”

The officer told Glembin that the Muskego Public Works Dept. would pick up the deer carcass, leading to him dragging the animal into a ditch “unprompted,” per the report. Prosecutors investigating the matter found his dress to be “not consistent” with CBP Agents.

Four days later in New Berlin, WI, a similar incident occurred when Glembin pulled over and approached an officer in the course of a routine traffic stop, wearing a green tactical vest marked “agent” and a the black cap with “CBP” embroidered upon it again claiming to be “off duty” and asking if the officer needed assistance. As Glembin walked away the officer noticed a "Border Patrol Unit" on the back of his vest.

New Berlin officers reached out to U.S. Customs and Border Protection special agents and they confirmed the I.D. cards and uniform items to be fraudulent in nature and verified that his firearm was not a CBP standard issue. They also reported that Glembin had previously been implicated in identity theft by the agency.

The suspect’s hearing is scheduled for Feb. 13th and was released on a $2,000 bond.
