WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Judiciary Committee released a series of internal FBI chat logs on April 1, which presented damning evidence that senior leadership within the bureau under then-Director Chris Wray imposed an internal “gag order” on the Hunter Biden Laptop and “admonished” an agent for initially confirming an active investigation.
As reported by Miranda Devine for The New York Post, the chat logs show that senior leaders in the FBI went to great lengths to shut down discussion of the laptop, along with any public acknowledgment of an investigation into the Biden family. As noted by the Post, the bureau possessed the discarded laptop owned by the former President’s son and were even warned by computer repair shop owner John Paul Mac Isaac of the potentially incriminating evidence inside.
The committee explained in thread to X, “The FBI’s campaign to discredit the Post story continued even after it was published on October 14, 2020. That morning, one FBI analyst tried to tell Twitter that the laptop was real—until his bosses shut him up.”
“The Committee had testimony from key FBI personnel, but until now, the FBI refused to produce the internal communications from that day in unclassified form for the American public to see.”
“An internal FBI chat log newly obtained by the Committee shows the FBI deliberately withheld information about the FBI having Hunter Biden’s laptop and an ongoing criminal investigation involving the Biden family’s corruption: 'do not discuss biden matter.’”
The messages convey that after The New York Posts’ initial coverage of the Hunter Biden Laptop was published on Oct. 14, 2020 an agent with the bureau confirmed to employees of Twitter that the laptop was indeed real but was subsequently “admonished” by his superiors who complained that “he won’t shut up.”
Devine provided additional context writing for the Post, identifying several of the participating figures, including an attorney working for former FBI general counsel James Baker, who was later picked up by Twitter and now X, and who allegedly a major collaborator in the coverup and censorship of the Post’s story.
“Please do not discuss Biden matter,” the attorney can be seen saying in the chat log.
As the Committee noted, the released chat logs appear to support the report issued in October 2024, which described the effort by the FBI to ‘Pre-bunk’ the story of the Hunter Biden laptop.
The committee found, “Beginning in early 2020, the FBI embarked on a concerted campaign to preemptively debunk—or 'prebunk'—allegations about the Biden family’s influence peddling. Federal agencies repeatedly warned social media platforms about a pre-election Russian influence operation relating to Hunter Biden and the Ukrainian company Burisma.9 In many of these meetings between federal agencies and Big Tech, the FBI raised the topic of potential 'hack-and-leak' operations amid conversations about “election security” and potential foreign influence operations.10 In response, some platforms even adopted new content moderation policies specifically designed to address hacked materials.”
According to the National Review, the FBI has declined to comment on the release.
