Transgender in Utah arrested for brutal murder of parents, caught after massive manhunt

WASHINGTON CITY, UT - A Utah man, Collin Troy Bailey, 28, who allegedly identifies himself as a woman named Mia, was located and arrested after an hours-long manhunt that followed the brutal murder of his parents Gail and Blue Bailey- aged 69 and 70- in Washington City, near the Arizona border.

The Daily Mail reported Wednesday that Bailey was arrested by seven police officers in St. George, approximately seven miles away from his home where his parents had been found dead sixteen hours before.

In a statement posted to Facebook, referring to Bailey as "she," the Department wrote, "Those living in the Bloomington Hills and Fort Pierce area! A suspect of a double homicide that occurred in Washington City on 6/18/24 was last seen in the area of Quarry Ridge & River Road.

"The suspect was seen heading west through the wash. THE SUSPECT IS CONSIDERED ARMED AND DANGEROUS. She was last seen wearing blue skinny jeans, light blue or white T-shirt, and has dark hair. She is 5’10”and 130 pounds. We ask that those in the affected area shelter in place and call police if you see anything suspicious."

According to The New York Post, area law enforcement launched a massive manhunt for Bailey who reportedly fled the home in a yellow KIA Soul. Video released by police showed the suspect peacefully surrendering surrounded by a dozen officers with weapons drawn. He reportedly threw down his weapon before being taken into custody.

Local news outlet KSL reported that Lt. Kory Klotz with the Washington Police Department explained that officers responded to the Bailey home Tuesday evening following reports of gunshots. The responding officers found the couple later identified as Gail and Blue dead from gunshot wounds.

St. George Police told the outlet that Bailey was spotted in the area of Quarry Ridge and River Road and that a shelter-in-place order was issued to the public. The suspect was placed into custody at about 10:30 AM MST and the shelter order was lifted.

In a post to social media reported by The Dailey Mail, Mike Mitchell, brother of Gail, commented on the deaths of his sister and brother-in-law. "Their own son killed them. My poor mother has lost 3 of her 5 children. You always think it only happens to someone else. Give your brother or sister a call. Stay in touch."
