Chilling Detail Surfaces About Murderous Texas Gunman

AUSTIN, TX -  The man accused of fatally shooting two people at a Texas bar early Sunday, an attack that also left 14 others injured, was reportedly wearing a sweatshirt bearing the words “Property of Allah” along with another shirt featuring the Iranian flag, according to a law enforcement official who spoke with The Associated Press, according to WRAL.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, the official said, along with another individual familiar with the investigation. Both sources requested anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly on the ongoing probe.

Officers with the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the well-known street to calls about a shooting at Buford's Bar, KXAN reported. APD Chief Lisa Davis said three officers shot back toward the suspect, killing him. During a news briefing, Chief Davis said an SUV drove around the area several times before the suspect fired a handgun out of the window.

Those shots hit multiple people on the patio and in front of the bar, police said. Davis said the suspect then parked the vehicle on Wood Street, got out, and shot his gun at people walking by. Police responded at that time, and the suspect was shot and killed.

Medics took 14 people to the hospital following the shooting. Of those 14, three were in critical condition as of the latest report. "I'm very thankful for the speed with which our public safety officials responded to this," said Austin Mayor Kirk Watson. "I don't think there are any questions that it saved lives."

Chief Davis said officers and Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) medics were able to respond quickly to the area because of customary staging over on East Sixth Street. ATCEMS Chief Robert Luckirtz said his medics were on scene within 57 seconds of getting the call at 1:59 a.m.

Federal partners also responded to the scene. The FBI said its joint terrorism task force team members as well as other specialty teams, were investigating. Austin Police Association President Michael Bullock confirmed the suspect was one of the three people who died.

Of the 17 total patients treated, three were pronounced dead at the scene and 14 were transported to area hospitals, CBS Austin reported.

Community members who are searching for loved ones related to the shooting can call APD's Victim Services Unit at 512-974-5037.
