OWASSO, OK - Authorities with the Owasso Police Department (OPD) are investigating after a shooting left two people dead late last week.
TikTok influencer Sara Gilson's boyfriend reportedly pleaded with her to cut ties with her estranged husband before he killed her, according to Fox News. Gilson, also known as Sara Duffey, made a post several weeks ago alleging that her husband was a pedophile. On Thursday, police responded to a report of a domestic violence incident and found both Sara Duffey and Jeremiah Shawn Duffey dead.
Now, police are investigating the incident as a murder suicide. A child inside the house called 911 and told the dispatcher, "his step-father had shot his mother."
Prior to being found dead, Sara Duffey made a TikTok on July 11 that was captioned, "Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile."
Lyle Landers, Sara Duffey's ex husband, said that he had "begged" her to leave him. "She had been stuck in a relationship where domestic abuse seemed ‘OK’ " Landers said. "I had begged her for five years to get away from him. I had offered to help her, in any way I could, to get away from him. But he seemed to have some sort of control over her, and she couldn’t seem to get away."
"She was a wonderful mother and would die for her children. In fact, her trying to protect children is what ultimately led to her death," Landers said.
On June 9, Owasso Police received a report from a parent and child accusing Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, a basketball coach, of touching a female child during an event held inside a school. Police said similar actions by Duffey had been reported over an extended period of time toward the same child in several law enforcement jurisdictions across multiple states, KTUL reported.
During the investigation, OPD learned that Duffey is a member of the Osage Nation and due to the incident taking place in Indian County, the case was considered to be a "major crime under the Federal Major Crimes Act." Duffey was accused of lewd molestations of a minor and the case was sent to the U.S. Attorney's Office for review. OPD no longer had jurisdiction over the investigation.
After the alleged incident, Sara Duffey filed an emergency protective order that barred him from the home. That same day, another woman filed a separate protective order against Duffey, alleging he had been spotted "kissing and fondling" her 15-year-old daughter, a player on the youth basketball team he coached. He allegedly gave the young girl money to "keep her quiet."
Police said Sara Duffey had been granted the protective order against Jeremiah Duffey, and no reports had been made of him violating the order prior to the shooting.
