KILLARNEY, IRELAND- Time was not so long ago, people in Ireland could sleep at night or leave home for the day and not have to concern themselves with locking their doors or could walk the streets in most cities and towns and not have to live in fear of being randomly attacked. Now, however, after a mass invasion of aliens from other countries, that is no longer the case.
Last week, Jamey Carney, an American citizen who moved to Ireland in 2021, was found strangled to death on July 7 by her 13-year-old daughter. According to The Irish Independent, detectives believe she died at approximately 11 p.m. on July 6, about 14 hours before her body was discovered.
Fox News Digital reported that the suspect, a Jordanian national whom police initially refused to identify, was finally identified as Ahmad Al-Saqar, who was in a relationship with Carney. He is considered a “person of interest” by Irish police, according to the Irish Mirror.
When Irish police initially refused to identify Al-Saqar as a person of interest, the apparent decision to hide his Muslim identity was widely criticized on both sides of the Atlantic. Police in Ireland finally released his identity and said that the Garda is working with international law enforcement partners on the murder investigation.
Al-Saqar had his petition for asylum rejected and traveled by bus to Dublin International Airport, where he is believed to have flown to Istanbul, Turkey. However, Turkey has an extradition treaty with Ireland so investigators believe he may have flown to his home country of Jordan, which has no such treaty. Al-Saqar arrived on the Emerald Isle in 2024, was refused for his asylum bid, and was in the process of appealing that decision when Ms. Carney was murdered.
Carney’s cause of death was determined to result from being brutally beaten and suffocated. She was last seen with Al-Saqar on July 6 and had also been seen the day before. Social media posts indicated the two had been in a relationship for several months.
Ironically, Carney posted to Instagram on April 28 a picture of her and Al-Saqar, with her hugging him and posting, “He continues to show me what safe love is.”
In a statement, Irish police said that a “person of interest” left the country before they could be interviewed by officers.
“An Garda Siochana is satisfied that a person of interest in this investigation left the jurisdiction in the early hours of Tuesday, July 7, prior to the body of the deceased female being discovered and reported to An Garda Siochana,” a spokesperson said. “Gardai are continuing to appeal for any person with any information to come forward to speak to the investigation team.”
Carney’s sister Devon Bennett has started a GoFundMe to keep her and her mother in Ireland as they work to find out who murdered their sister. A link can be found here.
A law enforcement source told Fox News Digital that the search for Al-Saqar is going to be difficult because he had a significant head start before investigators were alerted to Carney’s death.
A State Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital it was providing consular assistance to Carney’s family.
UPDATE: Media reports that Al-Saqar has been arrested by Jordanian authorities.
