ROWAN COUNTY, NC - The overnight hours are reserved for peaceful sleep, gentle dreams, and physical and mental regeneration.
But not for Jerry Marlowe of Rowan County, North Carolina. It was reported that Paula Marlowe, Jerry’s wife, attempted to kill him overnight as he lay asleep in their home.
At 2:52 a.m. eastern time, deputies from Rowan County responded to a call of a man bleeding and requiring immediate medical attention late last month. According to the press release, they entered the home and discovered Jerry receiving treatment for a sizable laceration on his neck. It was unclear if Paula was the individual rendering treatment or if medical services arrived before local law enforcement and rendered aid.
It is very possible that Paula was the one who rendered the treatment, given the sudden and surprising change of circumstances of the alleged crime.
Once deputies arrived, they determined they needed to contact CID, the criminal investigative division. CID reported to the scene and began their investigation. After speaking with Paula, they discovered the full details once she confessed, which were alarming.
“According to her statement, she intended to kill her husband, set the residence on fire, and then take her own life due to alleged financial difficulties. Investigators determined the plan was interrupted when she got scared during the assault and fled the bedroom before carrying out the remainder of what she described,” the press release wrote.
Talk about second thoughts.
The extent of Jerry’s injuries is unclear, but it was reported that his injuries were considered “serious”. Given the location of the injury, it could have been much worse - and deadlier.
The neck contains major blood vessels close to the surface, such as the main artery, the carotid artery, and the jugular vein, so injuries there can quickly become life-threatening due to severe bleeding or disrupted blood flow to the brain.
One could say Jerry has a powerful Guardian Angel.
Regardless of the noble decision by Paula to change her mind about the terrible idea of killing her husband, followed by another bad idea of taking her own life, she is facing serious legal woes.
Paula has been charged with attempted first-degree murder. The investigation is ongoing and could lead to additional charges.
