BABYLON, NY - Police have reportedly increased patrols after a brawl took place at Robert Moses State Park on Friday afternoon, June 6.
New York State Police said they were increasing their patrols over the weekend following a large gathering of teenagers that led to a fight, News 12 reported. Video shows a crowd surrounding two teenagers wearing boxing gloves as they exchanged punches.
Sources said approximately 100 people were involved in the gathering, and authorities confirmed that at least one person was injured during the incident. Witnesses said the gathering was part of a planned "Senior Cut Day" involving students from several Long Island schools.
Lake Ronkonkoma resident James Moore said he was surprised the event took place at Robert Moses State Park. "I heard last year it was down at Jones Beach, but this year it kind of surprised me here because it's more of a quiet, laid-back setting," he said.
Police confirmed that the incident remains under investigation. Suffolk Police released a statement, saying, "Throughout the summer months, the department has deployed five dedicated teams to patrol downtown areas and business districts, addressing quality-of-life crimes and maintaining a visible enforcement presence."
"Additionally, 20 seasonal officers have been assigned to the Marine Bureau to provide enhanced coverage of our beaches and waterways during the busy summer season. Our intelligence detectives and crime analysts continuously monitor social media to identify events that may lead to large gatherings or potential public safety concerns. As always, the department remains prepared to adjust resources as needed to respond to incidents," the statement added.
