Rhode Island: Stabbing Spree at Narragansett Beach Sparks Panic

NARRAGANSETT, RI - Three people were injured in a stabbing spree at a Narragansett beach on Tuesday, May 19, according to authorities who said the victims were found with minor stab wounds.

Police said they responded to the Narragansett Town Beach at approximately 3:04 p.m. for a report of a stabbing, WGME reported. Police said the three unidentified individuals who were stabbed were taken to a local hospital for treatment. No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made in connection with the stabbings.

"There are no suspects at this time, and the case is still actively under investigation," the Narragansett Police Department said. However, several other disturbances broke out as hundreds of people on the beach attempted to leave simultaneously, according to Fox News.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the chaotic scene. Two unidentified adults were arrested and charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice. Police said that those arrests did not appear to be related to the stabbings.

WJAR spoke to two college students home for break who saw the fight. "From my point of view, I’m sitting on my towel, and there’s just like this big crowd, probably like 30 feet in front of us," one student said. "They’re fighting, the kids are arguing, there’s a bunch of hooting and hollering, and me, I just saw a couple of punches."

"There was a bunch of screams and everyone started running,” said Chris Antionio, a witness. “I didn’t see him get stabbed, but you could make out what’s going on."

Another disturbance was also reported on Tuesday at Second Beach in Middletown, Rhode Island. Nine people were arrested after a large disturbance at the beach, after police said they were alerted to a gathering with approximately 1,200 high school-aged people at the beach. Officers said the crowd at Second Beach refused to disperse, causing police to deploy pepper spray.
