Congress Moves to Fully Fund ICE for Trump’s Remaining Term

WASHINGTON, DC – Republican Rep. Mike Haridopolos made an appearance on Fox News earlier in June to discuss the House’s next steps following the Senate passing an immigration enforcement funding package that would see agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) funded throughout the remainder of President Donald Trump’s term in office.

On June 5th, the Senate passed a $70 billion measure to fund federal immigration enforcement throughout the remaining years President Trump is in office, with the next steps in the funding deal being a vote in the House which could come as early as June 9th.

Republican Congressman Haridopolos joined Fox News host Mike Emanuel following the Senate passing the budgeting package, remarking on how the funding of ICE and lateral agencies is critical in order to address the issues brought on by the prior administration alongside the exploits of “sanctuary cities.”

“Ten million people entered this country illegally during the Biden years. Record crime rates followed. Unfortunately, sanctuary cities, which are approximately 20 percent of the American population, did not go out and arrest some of the most violent or sexual offenders. And more recently, they're not putting up the money. Finally, we have stepped up, received those dollars,” Rep. Haridopolos stated.

The congressman from Florida is also optimistic that the package will be passed in the House, citing how different iterations of the same package have already been greenlit by the House in prior attempts to push the funding through.

“The Senate finally passed this bill after we passed it four different times in the House,” Rep. Haridopolos said, later adding, “We've been waiting on the Senate to pass this. A lot of politics are involved. But as a former history teacher, our number one responsibility is protecting life and property. That's why you form a government in the first place. I'm glad to see the Senate is stepping up. We're moving forward to the reconciliation.”

In light of the upcoming FIFA World Cup where the United States will serve as host to 78 of the matches, Rep. Haridopolos concurred with the sentiments of administration officials that the agencies under Homeland Security need the proper funding to ensure the safety of all involved in the matter.

“It's going to be an exciting time, but as the Homeland Security Secretary said, this is a challenging event. It's why we need all hands on deck, and the folks who protect us deserve to be paid,” Rep. Haridopolos stated.
