NASHVILLE, TN – Earlier in May, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers operating out of the Nashville area reportedly apprehended a Sudanese criminal illegal alien with a history of violent offenses dating back over two decades who’d ignored a prior order of removal.
On May 5th, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans officers apprehended 55-year-old Gabriel Maror Ayuel, a Sudanese national with a prior conviction of attempted murder, who was found residing in an apartment complex located in South Nashville.
Ayuel reportedly came to the United States back in 1995 as a refugee from Sudan, only to later be convicted of first-degree attempted murder in Tennessee in 2003 which rendered a 20 year sentence. In July of 2008, an immigration judge revoked his refugee status in light of his conviction and issued a final order of removal which Ayuel reportedly ignored.
Alongside the attempted murder conviction, Ayuel also accrued numerous other charges during his time stateside which includes arrests for driving under the influence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony possession of a prohibited weapon, felony flight to avoid prosecution, and failure to appear.
Upon being taken into custody in Tennessee this past May, Ayuel allegedly told ICE officers that he’d just moved into the South Nashville apartment complex in the past week. Officials say Ayuel will remain in custody pending removal proceedings.
ICE ERO New Orleans acting Field Office Director Brian Acuna issued a statement in tandem with the press release announcing Ayuel’s apprehension, emphasizing the agency’s ongoing efforts to locate and process for removal criminal illegal aliens hiding throughout American communities.
“Removing illegal aliens with serious criminal convictions from our communities is essential to protecting public safety. We are committed to enforcing immigration laws and prioritizing cases that pose a threat to our neighborhoods,” Director Acuna stated.
