Two hundred critically missing children have been rescued thanks to Operation We Will Find You 2.
The U.S. Marshals Service made the announcement on Monday. According to ABC News, the operation spanned six-weeks with “hot spot cities,” including Miami and Phoenix, being the focus.
“Whenever a child is missing, whether we cannot explain how they went missing, whether we think it was a family abduction, or whether it’s a runaway, they are at risk of being in danger and at risk of being trafficked, at risk of being hurt, we need to take it very, very seriously,” Ronald Davis, the U.S. Marshals Service Director, said on Monday.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) assisted in the operation, which ran from May 20 to June 24, 2024. With their help, 77 children were in safe locations and 123 children were rescued from dangerous situations. Officials said that most of the children rescued were from the Phoenix area.
Davis said that “the number of children rescued is still just scratching the surface.”
According to Davis, this operation has been run six times prior to this one. So far in 2024, 546 children have been located. This total is higher than this time last year, but lower than the 2021 total of 950 children located.
NCMEC president Michelle DeLaune expressed his gratitude for the Marshals Service and their work in finding the missing children.
“Our kids are our most precious asset,” Davis said. “We need to make sure that all of them have an opportunity to grow in a safe environment. I think that is our obligation.”
