There are thousands, if not more, of nonprofit organizations across the United States. Not many of them specifically serve the law enforcement community. But there is one, InVest USA who does.

InVest USA is dedicated to "protecting those who protect us" by providing law enforcement officers and first responders with body armor at no cost to them.

Their mission has since expanded and evolved over the years to not only ensuring that every first responder has the necessary protective gear to enable them to come home safely to their families after putting themselves in harm’s way to protect our freedom, liberties, and values that keep our communities as safe havens and beacons of hope, but to serve as a voice for these American Heroes.

Since the start of the nonprofit organization, the CEO and Founder of InVest USA, Michael Letts has become one of the leading advocates for police in America. He has become a staple in the LEO community and has been fighting for and supporting cops for decades.

But there’s a lot more to him and InVest USA that many people don’t realize. Here are five things you need to know about InVest USA.

  1. They are one of the longest-running nonprofit organizations in America. InVest USA has been in existence an astounding 30-plus years! That is no easy feat. Starting a nonprofit organization is simple, It just requires paperwork and a few bucks. Running it isn’t difficult either, it’s usually fueled by passion. But running a thriving, effective nonprofit for over 30 years is virtually unheard of – but InVest USA has done it.
  2. CEO and Founder Michael Letts started the nonprofit organization somewhat “by accident.” As a young politician, Letts was surprised to learn that the police department didn’t issue officers body armor. He set out to allot a portion of the budget to purchase them. But when his political constituents voted the purchase down, Letts vowed to raise the money himself in a fit of frustration. The local newspaper quoted him on the front cover and once it became public, he knew he had to follow up on that promise.
  3. InVest USA offers a program that “blesses” the vest. “Bless the Vest” is a non-denominational campaign, available at their nonprofit organization in Columbia, to provide physical and spiritual protection to law enforcement officers throughout the country. The congregation will adopt a local officer and provide them with a body armor vest. A $700 target for each participating congregation will be the trigger point for a new vest presentation.
  4. InVest USA has a program that involves the children of the community. “Pennies for Police” allows young people of all ages to take pride and ownership in their school resource officer by engaging their schools, youth organizations, etc. to bring their “Pennies” (coin change they are given around the house) for Police to provide and present a bullet proof vest for the officer charged with protecting them.
  5. InVest USA has crossed international borders. CEO and Founder Michael Letts has spent time as a child living in Mexico with his family. He saw firsthand just how difficult policing can be in a violent area. Mexico was among the first countries to give vests provided by InVest USA to their officers.
There is no doubt that Michael Letts and InVest USA have saved the lives of countless officers and first responders, allowing them to go back home to their families.
