MEMPHIS, TN - Authorities with the Memphis Police Department (MPD) announced that they have arrested and charged two people for allegedly setting a woman's vehicle on fire.
The man arrested and his girlfriend, allegedly set his ex-wife's car on fire with her inside of it, ActionNews5 reported.
On July 30th, police and the Memphis Fire Department responded to a call on South Second Street. Upon arriving on scene, officers and firefighters found the victim, identified as Travis Davison's estranged wife.
She told authorities that she was sitting in her vehicle when another driver parked in front of her. The victim said that she could hear the driver's phone call being broadcast over Bluetooth in their vehicle.
She said a man's voice, later identified as Davison, instructed the driver to "light the b*itch up!"
The affidavit states that the driver, now on the phone with what sounded like a woman, proceeded to get out of the vehicle and pour gasoline on the victim's car.
The victim, noticing that gasoline was being poured on her car, began to crawl out, escaping before it was lit on fire.
After further investigation, detectives learned that Davison was the victim's husband for five years and that he was the voice on the phone call that demanded the car be set on fire with his wife inside.
It was also learned that Davison's girlfriend, Jessica Rios, was identified as an accomplice, having a history of harassment reports linked to the victim. Davison and Rios are both now facing charges for attempted second-degree murder, FOX13 reported.
"All parties could have stopped the offense to preserve (the woman's) life," MPD said. "Instead, the actions continued, and the person then lit the vehicle on fire as (the woman) was crawling out."
Cellphone video obtained by WREG showed the victim's car on fire after she managed to make it out unharmed.
A neighbor who captured the footage said she witnessed the entire aftermath, as did her daughter.
"My daughter and I jumped out of our car, and she was like, 'somebody call 911,'" the woman recalled.
"Police were here before the fire department, and I heard her saying something about her husband." Davison has also been charged with attempted reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, Law & Crime reported.
Court records show that on March 24th, Davison showed up that the same apartment complex in North Memphis and pointed a gun at the victim and her sister.
The victim told police she had an order of protection against Davison and had just returned to her home from a court proceeding when Davison arrived with a gun and two women.
The victim said Davison was encouraging the women to assault her. Investigators said she was able to provide cell phone videos of the two females who threatened to fight her.
Davison was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and was initially released from jail on a $50,000 bond.
He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
