House bill to deport illegal immigrants who assault LEOs passed the House... then got stuck

As the number of illegal immigrants in America continues to rise each day, so does the number of crimes committed. Far too many of these crimes are directed towards our police officers and first responders.

But there is some hope in sight – potentially.

In April of 2023, House Bill 2494, the POLICE Act of 2023, was introduced by Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) to make it law that any illegal immigrant who assaults a first responder is deported.

The bill is written as:
“(i) IN GENERAL.—Any alien who has been convicted of, who admits having committed, or who admits committing acts which constitute the essential elements of, any offense involving assault of a law enforcement officer is deportable.”

The bill passed the House in May 2023 and is off to the Senate, then President to become law.

But with a Democrat majority Senate, does the bill have a chance of going all the way?

“I want the American people to know not a single Democrat voted in favor of deporting an illegal immigrant that assaults a first responder. What rationale, what kind of logic did they have by not wanting to kick somebody out of the country who, first of all broke the law to be here to begin with, and then assault our law enforcement? The rationale is very simple,” Michael Letts, LEO expert, advocate, and President of InVest USA, a nonprofit organization that provides free vests to First Responders, told LET.

“The Democratic Party is concerned about one issue, and it's not the American citizen. It's maintaining power and control, that's what they care about. They demonstrated that when they spent billions of your dollars to defend Ukraine and that war, [they] didn't spend a dime to take care of our borders, our law enforcement officers, or our veterans and our homeless veterans. So they're only concerned about maintaining power because of that,” Letts added.

It has been proven time and again that Democrats want more illegal aliens in our country, and they want to give them additional rights and privileges not seen before in America. To Democrats, the more the merrier.

“Illegal immigration is vital to them because you remember what happens with an illegal immigrant, they've got a name now, they've got a guaranteed vote,” Letts said.

The unfortunate truth is that too many politicians (and law enforcement has seen this from both sides of the aisle) put their interests far ahead of the interests of American citizens.

“They are more concerned about maintaining and exercising their power than they are about what is best for the American people. And the tragic demonstration of that is they don't care if you assault the police officer if you're an illegal immigrant, as long as that is a venue for them to gain additional power,” Letts said.

He continued, “They'll just ignore their first responders the same as they ignore the American citizens by spending tax dollars for issues such as providing illegal immigrants with everything from incidental $10,000 a month, incidental cars, the transportation, food, lodging - but yet they won't do that for their own American citizens. How tragic.”

Whether or not House Bill 2494 will continue to move through the legal system remains to be seen. Until then more police officers and first responders will continue to be assaulted. It will likely come down to what it usually does, politics.
