If one were to list the decisive and influential events that shaped the modern world, World War II would almost certainly top the list. In many ways, the war represented the birth of the modern era as we know it, with all the cultural shifts that picture evokes.

When the war ended, the world’s superpowers drew together to divide the spoils among themselves and build their new world with 70 million graves as the foundation. But the lasting impact of the conflict goes beyond borders and represents, to this day, a far deeper impact on the collective psyche of the countries it touched than anyone living in 1945 could have predicted.

Germany came out of the rubble deeply wary of nationalism, militarism, and anything that might open the door to another Hitler, and we see that impact today in their suicidal immigration policies. Germany saw one potential future for nationalism and decided nationalism itself should be demonized.

On the other hand, Japan stripped its emperor of power, gave up imperial conquest, and turned to industry and innovation, rebuilding itself into an economic powerhouse. Instead of being ashamed of their past, they simply translated their ancestral strength and innovation into a more modernized empire. Japan has not conquered anyone in some time, but every country on earth has Japanese-made products in their homes.

And of course, two superpower rose above all the rest: the United States and the Soviet Union, fresh off one hot war and ready to start a Cold one.

And therein lies the great contradiction: America won the war, but in eight decades since, that victory has defeated us. Look around you: if you could magically teleport an American soldier from 1946 to 2026, would you honestly expect that man to feel like this was the country he envisioned himself fighting for? Doubtful.

That said, some Americans saw it coming. In 1946, as the nation celebrated victory, a small group of military men, writers, and entrepreneurs warned that more than 1,000 organized communist groups were already operating on American soil. They founded America's Future to sound the alarm.

Eighty years later, the organization says the stakes have never been higher.

"I feel like where we as a nation stand as a citizenry, I think, is at a crossroads, and we better figure out which direction we're going to go," said Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (Ret.), Chairman of the Board of America's Future.

Flynn and Executive Director Mary Flynn-O'Neill lead a mission built on three pillars: faith, family, and freedom. For Flynn, who grew up as one of nine siblings and is now a grandfather, the fight is personal.

"My personal purpose in life is to try to fight for at least a couple of more generations ahead of me," he said. "If we fight for our children, then we're fighting for the future of the country."

That conviction drives the organization's most urgent battle. Through Project Defend and Protect Children, America's Future has partnered with the Association for the Recovery of Children (ARC) to take the war on child sex trafficking straight into American communities. Their summits and intensive six-day course train communities to fight trafficking and stop it before it starts. ARC Program Director Tina Baz says public awareness is already changing.

The fight reaches into the courtroom too. The group's constitutional law team has filed amicus briefs and won major cases.

"We take the big cases that we can fight and win," Flynn-O'Neill said, "because they are trying to rip that Constitution apart."

They don't fight alone. United States Drug Czar Sara Carter, Bishop Leon of New Life Harvest Church, and patriotic musician Dave Bray all join the call. Bishop Leon says the rebuilding has to start with the family and work outward.

"Local action leads to national impact," he said. "We cannot rely simply on one man to do it all for us."

Bray puts the challenge most bluntly, urging Americans to see their children "less as pawns and more as kings."

The generation that won World War II handed its children the most powerful nation on earth. Whether that inheritance survives the next 250 years may depend on what this generation chooses to do with it.
