Irony? Anti-Second Amendment Justice Sotomayor's security detail shot would-be carjacker outside her DC home

WASHINGTON, DC - Liberal elites believe in the right to keep and bear arms–but only for those who are duty-bound to protect them.

The latest example comes out of Washington, D.C., where an armed carjacker made the mistake of attempting to jack a car occupied by a deputy US Marshal who is assigned to the security detail of liberal Supreme Court justice and “wise Latina” Sonia Sotomayor, the New York Post reports

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on July 5, the two marshals were parked outside of Sotomayor’s home in northwest D.C. when 18-year-old Kentrell Flowers walked up to one of their vehicles, and pointed a gun at one of the agents in an attempt to steal his vehicle, the U.S. Marshals Service told the Post

One officer fired several shots at the suspect, and the second one also joined in, with at least one of the shots hitting Flowers, who was taken into custody. He was treated at a DC hospital for non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

“The Deputy US Marshals involved in the shooting incident were part of the unit protecting the residences of U.S. Supreme Court justices,” the Marshals office said in a statement. Metropolitan DC police are investigating the shooting, and a semiautomatic handgun was recovered at the scene.

Flowers was charged with armed carjacking, carrying a pistol without a license, and possession of a large capacity magazine. No status on his case was offered, but given DC’s liberal bail policies, he will likely be out on the street soon if he isn’t already.

Sotomayor was not home at the time of the incident, authorities said.

The incident is another example of an elite DC liberal being protected by the Second Amendment that they often rail against, with Sotomayor being one of those.

In 2010, Sotomayor dissented in the case of McDonald v. City of Chicago [561 U.S. 742 (2010)]. The dissent, written by former Justice Stephen Breyer, stated that “...the Fourteenth Amendment does not incorporate the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms for purposes of private self-defense.”

The McDonald case involved a law in Chicago and a suburb, Oak Park, that effectively banned handgun possession by almost all private citizens, with the petitioner arguing the law left them vulnerable to criminals.

Sotomayor in 2004 joined in an opinion that claimed in essence that “the right to possess a gun is clearly not a fundamental right,” Fox News reported.

After the incident near her home, Sotomayor was lit up.

“Justice Sotomayor has aggressively opposed the individual right to self-defense in her dissenting opinions on several major Second Amendment cases over the years,” Erich Pratt, senior vice president for Gun Owners of America, told Fox News Digital.

“So it is incredibly ironic, even hypocritical, that her own private protective detail was forced to exercise this basic and universal right to protect themselves in a very dangerous situation. Hopefully this incident will open her eyes, but we won’t hold our breath,” he said.

X also did not disappoint:

So radical is Sotomayor that in 2009, she joined in a dissenting opinion with the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that Second Amendment rights do not apply to the states.

The case involving Sotomayor’s detail is just the latest incident where liberals have been protected by the same rights or entities that they rail against.

For example, “squad” member Cori Bush (D-MO), a fierce anti-police, defund the police zealot, spent $129,660.22 on private security in 2023, which didn’t cover the fourth quarter of that fiscal year, Politico reported. She was being investigated by the Justice Department for using campaign funds to pay for private security, which happened to go to her now-husband who was serving as a “security guard,” records show All told, the New York Post says Bush has spent over $730,000 on private security since she took office.

Right behind Bush is former New York bartender Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has spent $272,000 for private security. Ocasio-Cortez has also called for defunding the police and dismantling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This won't make her change her mind one iota, after all the liberal's mantra is: Don't bother me with the facts, I've made up my mind.

Elitists are insulated from the rabble and view their safety as paramount because of their 'importance'. Their 'rights' are simply our privileges, which can be extended or removed as deemed convenient. This is a notion of government that has existed for thousands of years (articulated by Plato); it's not new.

They should have honored her belief that nobody has the right to carry a firearm and let it play out. Could have fixed the problem in one of two ways. First, she could have found out the importance of owning and carrying a firearm after taking her car or ..... (well, we know how it could have played out). Either way a lesson would have been taught.

Sotomayor is an example of what DEI produces. She's a sorry excuse from the left. She was confirmed by a Democratically control Senate. Her selection was entirely based on her politics. Isn't it amazing the 3 liberal SCOTUS are women of minority status.

Talk about perfidy and hypocrisy! She uses armed guards, paid by taxpayers' money, to protect herself, but she wants to deny the taxpayers the same right of protection. She was appointed merely as a sop to the Hispanic voters, and should be removed from the bench. Any judge who does no uphold the Constitution does not belong on the court.
