BATTLE GROUND, WA - On Saturday, April 20th, a teacher from Battle Ground High School was placed on administrative leave after being arrested on charges involving online sexual corruption of a child.
According to KPTV, police with the Albany Police Department in Oregon arrested 57-year-old Kevin Weeks. He has since been booked into Linn County Jail under the suspicion of first-degree online sexual corruption of a child. The People v. Preds Facebook group shared a video of Weeks being arrested by the officers.
A member of the People v. Preds organization, who asked to remain anonymous, said that a member from California visited Oregon to catch child predators utilizing social media decoy accounts.
He said in a statement, "I started about three years ago. In like 32 months, I've caught 405 now. Basically, I create online decoy accounts that pose as underage children. People reach out to us. We let them know that we're 13, 14, 15. No set age, just an underage kid and the conversation continues, and the conversation gets sexual and the individual comes to meet. If law enforcement wants to be involved, they can be involved."
The member said that he has caught 20 people just in the last nine days while out in Oregon. When discussing the communication between Weeks and the decoy account, he said, "Kevin reached out to me, basically Kevin reached out to me at the beginning of this trip."
In the video posted by the People v. Preds group showing Weeks' arrest, the manager of the decoy account told Weeks to just be honest with the police and asked why Weeks was there. While in handcuffs, he replied, "To meet Jessica (the decoy account's name)." The guy further asked Weeks how old she was and what they talked about. Weeks said, "14 and sex."
On Sunday, April 21st, Battle Ground High School Principle Charbonneau Gourde sent an email to parents of students at the high school, stating that Weeks has been placed on administrative leave and will not be at school while the Battle Ground Public Schools District completes its investigation. Gourde wrote, "I am writing to share some concerning information about a staff member. Earlier this weekend, we were informed that one of our staff members was arrested in Oregon for online corruption of a child.
Due to the serious nature of this matter, this person was placed on administrative leave and will not be at school while our district completes an investigation. We will also cooperate with the law enforcement investigation. Of course, this person's actions do not in any way align with the values or character of our school district. We will take all measures necessary to ensure that our students are educated in a safe environment. If you have any concerns, please contact me. While I am limited in the information that I can share, I am ready to listen to any concerns that you wish you discuss."
This is not the only incident to have happened by a Battle Ground High School employee. Back in March of 2023, a school counselor with the high school was arrested for physically assaulting her 10-year-old son.
According to court documents, school counselor Dawn Peck pinned her 10-year-old son against a bed with her elbow on his throat, hurting him and restricting his breathing. She was also accused of taking his phone and the Amazon Dot device from his room when he tried to call his dad for help. She was placed on administrative leave.
