WASHINGTON, DC- During the course of the Biden administration, President Biden gave the impression to some that he wasn’t completely lucid, which led many to wonder who exactly was running the country. It was later revealed that Biden had utilized an autopen, which simulates a presidential signature.
Use of the autopen isn’t necessarily unusual. Still, given the (some say) questionable executive orders and pardons Biden issued, particularly in the waning days of his administration, some critics are calling for an investigation. It appears they will get what they want.
An investigation into Biden’s use of the autopen has been launched, according to Trending Politics. Critics have complained that his use of the device proves that Biden administration officials were aware of his cognitive decline and were attempting to cover it up.
Since President Trump was inaugurated, Democrats have complained that “unelected” oligarchs, a reference to Elon Musk, were running the government, with some referring to the Tesla CEO as “President Musk.” However, if Biden was, in fact, using an autopen and was unaware of what he was signing, some allege that executive orders and other actions he took should be null and void. That includes President Trump and Republican lawmakers.
A “senior official” within the Trump Justice Department, Trending Politics revealed, says that DOJ staff received orders earlier this week to launch a probe into the clemency given by Biden to members of his family and death row inmates in the final days of his presidency.
Trump’s pardon attorney, Ed Martin, in an email obtained by Reuters, said the new investigations will examine whether Biden “was competent and whether others were taking advantage of him through the use of AutoPen or other means.”
“An autopen is a device used to automatically affix a signature to a document. Trump and his supporters have made a variety of unfounded claims that Biden’s use of the device while president invalidated his actions or suggested that he was not fully aware of these actions. It is not known whether Biden used autopen on pardons,” the news outlet reported.
Use of autopens is nothing new as a number of Presidents, including Trump, have used the device before. The question concerning Biden is whether he knew what was being signed, as many, including some in his own party, have begun to question his cognitive abilities. And if he didn’t understand what was being signed, who did?
Martin said the investigation will focus on the preemptive pardons Biden issued to several members of his family, including his son Hunter, and clemency granted to 37 federal inmates who were spared from the death penalty after he converted their death penalty sentences to life in prison.
Biden family members receiving pardons, besides Hunter, were his siblings James, Frank, and Valerie, along with their spouses.
When Biden pardoned Hunter, he broke a promise he had made to the American people, in which he stated that he would not get involved in his legal problems and would allow justice to be served. Despite Biden repeatedly saying “no one is above the law” when it came to President Trump, that didn’t appear to include members of his own family.
Martin didn’t specify which of Biden’s family members' pardons were being examined, nor did the email provide information on who had ordered the investigation.
Issuing pardons isn’t typically controversial, as presidents have used their executive clemency and pardon powers for decades, although some have led to sharp criticism. In the case of Biden and with his apparent cognitive issues, increased focus has been directed at his wide-ranging pardons, which went back to 2014, when some of the alleged crimes his family members may have been involved with possibly took place.
