QUEENS, NY - On Wednesday, December 20th, just days before Christmas, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers at LaGuardia's airport reportedly found 17 bullets concealed inside of a disposable baby diaper.

According to NBC News, TSA said that officers pulled the diaper from a passenger's carry-on bag after it triggered an alarm in an X-ray machine at an airport security checkpoint. The press release stated that, "TSA officers unwrapped 17 bullets that had been artfully concealed inside the otherwise clean disposable diaper."

Initially, the passenger claimed that he did not know about the bullet-filled diaper or how it ended up in his carry-on bag. Then, he suggested that his girlfriend put it there. While the passenger's identity has not been released, TSA did identify the passenger as a man from Arkansas who was ticketed for a flight to Chicago's Midway Airport. TSA said in the press release, "Apparently this guy needs a bullet-proof plan for packing his carry-on bag before heading to the airport for his next flight."

Port Authority police cited the man for unlawful possession of the 9mm ammunition. This latest incident is among many that have been cropping up at airports all across the country. Some people have been caught packing ammunition and others guns with the ammunition.

In November 2023, TSA officers found a .45-caliber pistol and a magazine loaded with six bullets concealed in a pair of Nike sneakers in a checked back at LaGuardia. While firearms are allowed to be transported as checked luggage, it must be done so only in a locked, hard-sided container, not in a pair of sneakers.

According to reports, in October 2023, a passenger who had worn a diaper filled with marijuana inside a plastic bag was apprehended at LaGuardia. Although recreational marijuana is legal in the state of New York, it is still illegal under federal law and cannot be transported through airports.

The passenger told TSA that she "wanted to hide it from her mom" and was supposedly permitted to board the flight after she was forced to throw out the drugs.

In April 2023, TSA officers pulled a loaded .22-caliber pistol and two boxes of ammunition totaling more than 100 bullets from a carry-on bag. The passenger claimed that he had been at a shooting range and forgot to remove the gun and bullets before heading to the airport. He was arrested for the incident.

Back in January of 2021, officers at a security checkpoint intercepted 13 bullets hidden in a Mentos chewing gum container inside a carry-on bag. The bullets were actually mixed in with pieces of gum. According to TSA, the passenger was charged with unlawful possession of ammunition. He allegedly claimed that the bag belonged to his son.
