RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA - A woman in her sixties is facing a murder charge after allegedly killing her husband with a flagpole in their gated community.
The woman, 65-year-old Vicky Kim was arrested on September 5 after deputies arrived on scene following a report of "unknown trouble" and found a victim with severe injuries from a physical assault, according to a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
The victim was identified as Kim's husband, Local12 reported. Court documents state that Kim used a flagpole to "inflict great bodily injury" on her husband. Molly Smith, spokesperson for the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, said that Kim has a history of domestic violence involving her husband.
Over the last year, prosecutors filed five domestic violence cases against Kim from September 2025 to January 2026, KPTV reported. She had been charged with a felony earlier in 2026 that was reduced to a misdemeanor, which led to her release from custody and the termination of protective orders against her, according to PEOPLE.
"In January of this year, our office charged Ms. Kim with a felony, obtained criminal protective orders, and intended to aggressively prosecute her for her crimes against her husband,” Smith said. "Despite our office’s clear objections, a judge resolved all of the defendant’s cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody, and terminated all protective orders that prosecutors worked hard to obtain,” she added.
Police records from 2007 show that she was previously charged with first-degree terroristic threatening after allegedly making a bomb threat at Keahole International Airport on the Big Island. Kim was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center and had his arraignment on Monday, September 14.
