SACRAMENTO, CA- In FY-2022, California’s state debt stood at $145.03 billion. That does not include unfunded liabilities and employee pensions, which increases the total debt to just under $520 billion. Yet despite the fiscal cliff California finds itself about to go over, the state is expanding its healthcare system this year to cover transition treatment and surgery for illegal aliens, according to Fox News. A memo first circulated in May 2022 that recently resurfaced after flying under the radar was reported by the Daily Caller News Foundation. It noted that California’s Medi-Cal covers the cost of hormone therapy and procedures “that bring primary and secondary gender characteristics into conformity with the individual’s identified gender, including ancillary services, such as hair removal, incident to those services.” Fox noted that as of January 1, nearly 700,000 illegal aliens between the ages of 26 and 49 qualified for those services, which is estimated to cost California taxpayers $3.1 billion. To put those costs into perspective, every illegal alien living in California in that age range receives medical coverage subsidies courtesy of California taxpayers of $4,058 annually. “Gender-affirming care is a covered Medi-Cal benefit when medically necessary,” the memo stated. “Requests for gender-affirming care should be from specialists experienced in providing culturally competent care to transgender and gender diverse individuals and should use nationally recognized guidelines.” Last month alone, some 302,000 illegal aliens attempted to cross the US southern border, a record month for such crossings. It was the first time monthly illegal alien encounters topped 300,000. “California is now paying for illegal aliens to get sex changes,” wrote Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) on X. “There’s no punchline to this tweet. California is the punchline.” In response to Boebert’s tweet, conservative Paul Szypula took Republican members of Congress to task for not doing anything about the invasion at our border. “California is horrible, but so is the US border. Republicans in Congress had a year as majority to address it but refused to be tough when needed.” The Daily Caller News Foundation republished portions of the memo on January 2. In a statement, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said, “In California, we believe everyone deserves access to quality, affordable health care coverage–regardless of income or immigration status. Through this expansion, we’re making sure families and communities across California are healthier, stronger and able to get the care they need when they need it.” He also announced the state would begin providing health care coverage to additional illegal aliens on top of the estimated 1.1 million already soaking the taxpayers through the Medi-Cal system. Estimates show that over one-third of California’s ever-contracting population is enrolled in the Medi-Cal program.
