MADISON, WI – A police press briefing in Madison, Wisconsin, regarding an officer-involved shooting of an armed subject devolved into absurdity earlier in July after an angry protester hijacked the press conference from authorities, segueing into a diatribe about “Zionists” and other obscure topics.
On July 23rd, Madison Police Chief John Patterson was speaking before members of the press regarding the fatal, officer-involved shooting that occurred a day earlier which reportedly involved a vagrant armed with a knife who allegedly wounded an officer during the incident.
The deceased subject involved in the police shooting was identified as 38-year-old Corey Durell Ruiz, with officers having encountered the subject following reports of a suspect reportedly stealing bicycles and checking vehicle doors in the area.
During the press conference, a man who identified himself as “Carlos Dixon” began shouting over Chief Patterson, yelling before members of the media and command staff, “You're going to say the same thing you all say every time a black body gets shot down in this city. This is a corrupt city. That's right.”
The individual described himself as an “anti-Zionist,” informing Chief Patterson of his intentions to take over the briefing in no uncertain terms, saying, “You won't be able to talk today because I'm going to keep talking because I was born to talk my talk and walk my walk too.”
Roughly a minute into the protester’s diatribe, Chief Patterson stepped to the side and surrendered the microphone to the individual, where the man self-identified as Dixon went on to say, “All power to all people. Zero power to Zionists. Zero power to capitalists. Zero power to colonialism. What you are doing right now in this city is continuing the disgusting nature of colonialism. The disgusting nature of imperialism.”
Dixon’s speech continued from there, with the protester saying, “Look up the definition of imperialism. It's all within the policies. Which means when these police officers come down on the street and they decide that they want to take the life of another brown body, there is no oversight for that. That's imperialism, ladies and gentlemen. This man signed up to be an enforcer of imperialism.”
Dixon’s antics at the podium reportedly carried on for a few minutes thereafter, with Chief Patterson eventually taking back control of the press briefing and ensuring a full investigation into the officer-involved shooting would be conducted.

There is a chief that is NOT a leader nor a cop. Let’s someone takeover a briefing. There should have been an arrest made and the protester taken away immediately!!!! He should never have been allowed to speak. There is a true spineless politician of a chief. It must be impossible to be a real street cop and work under such a poor leader.
