CHICAGO, IL — Reports from Chicago have indicated that a 61-year-old woman has been declared braindead following a brutal attack from an eight-time felon who was released on parole after robbing an undercover Chicago Police narcotics officer. The disturbing early morning attack has led to widespread online criticism of Chicago's and Illinois' restrictive laws on gun ownership.
According to CWBChicago, Mijawon Johnson, 36, beat the unnamed woman during a robbery aboard a Red-Line train in the downtown area to such an extent that she was declared braindead and is expected to be declared legally dead.
The outlet explained that surveillance footage showed Johnson attempting to steal the woman's bag on a Red-Line train car at approximately 1:33 a.m. January 4, according to officials. She resisted, and he responded violently by "pinning her head on a seat and repeatedly punching her in the head and stomach," according to a prosecution petition.
Prosecutors said that the assailant "stomped" the woman and left her on the train. She was later found unconscious and unresponsive by Chicago Transit Authority workers after the train arrived at Roosevelt Station.
Johnson was later arrested on a bus near the scene. He is being charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, and a misdemeanor count of violating an order of protection, police told reporters.
Court documents revealed that the woman was "on a ventilator and is brain dead” and that she was “not expected to survive.” The Chicago Sun-Times reported that she suffered severe injuries, "cuts and bruises to her face, broken ribs and trauma to her body."
As noted by BearingArms, CTA trains are designated as a "gun-free zone" under Illinois law, which precluded the victim from her constitutional right to protect herself from a more physically powerful and aggressive attacker. Writing for the outlet Cam Edwards suggested, "I can’t help but think that if the state of Illinois didn’t prohibit lawful concealed carry on its property there’s at least a chance that this woman would have survived her injuries. Even if she wasn’t carrying at the time there might have been another rider who could have come to her defense."
Johnson was reportedly paroled after serving just three years of a six-year sentence for robbing a covert narcotics officer in 2021. However, the habitual offender has served time in prison on six other occasions dating back to 2007, all of them for narcotics-related charges. CWBChicago reported citing Illinois Dept. of Corrections records.

The Police become the "clean-up committee as they cannot be everywhere to protect everyone against this kind of onslaught. Democrats want to take your gun away so YOU CANNOT PROTECT your family in your own home. I believe this action is criminal! Democrats don't care if you can't protect your family! They only care is to leave you unprotected so they can do anything they want without recourse. I cannot abide by this action, and I won't!
