Colorado mom who police say murdered two of her children arrested in the U.K.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Colorado Springs police have released that the 35-year-old mother wanted for allegedly murdering two of her children and attempting to murder the third has been captured and arrested in the United Kingdom.

Kimberlee Singler was said to be taken into custody without incident on Saturday in the Kensington section of London, but specific arrest location and other details have yet to be released.

According to the Associated Press, Singler made an appearance in London at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court Monday. Her next court hearing there is January 29, where the court will determin whether she'll be extradited back to the US. Here, she is facing multiple felony charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, child abuse, assault, and knowingly or recklessly to cause the death of a child.

Court records reportedly show that she's been in a longtime legal battle over custody of her children with her ex-husband, Kevin Wentz. The two deceased children have been identified as nine-year-old Aden and seven-year-old Ellie.

Wentz released a statement through his attorney, Jennifer Darby, which said, "Earlier this afternoon, Colorado Springs Police notified Kevin Wentz that Kimberlee Singler had been apprehended in the United Kingdom. He was relieved that the search has ended.

"Mr. Wentz is thankful to all of the law enforcement here in the United States and the United Kingdom that were involved in the homicide investigation and Kimberlee's subsequent arrest. It is his hope that Kimberlee will be extradited to Colorado soon. Kevin Wentz continues to hope for justice for his children Aden and Ellie. He prays for peace and healing for his surviving daughter.

"We ask that the community and press give the Wentz family the privacy that they need to mourn and heal."

On Tuesday, December 19, Colorado Springs police responded to a report of a burglary at Singler's home. Upon arrival, they found the two children deceased, as well as Singler and an 11-year-old child, who both had minor injuries.

Singler was treated as a victim and she and the 11-year-old girl were taken to the hospital. However, police determined that the story of a burglary was bogus, and they returned to her residence on December 26. They were unable to locate her there.

While a motive has not been clearly determined, it's been discovered that Singler had made claims that her ex-husband was abusive to her and the children, and those claims were apparently found to not be credible. An earlier statement from Wentz' attorney said, “Kevin Wentz has never committed an act of domestic violence or abuse against his ex-wife or his children. The repeated allegations that Ms. Singler made during the custody case were each made to coincide with Kevin’s parenting time.

“The Larimer County Court heard testimony related to each of the allegations and did not find them credible. The Court further found that Kevin was not a threat to the children.”

A court order was issued for Singler to give the children to Wentz. This was to happen on December 20, the day before the children were killed.
