BRIDGEPORT, CT - Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 38, is being charged with three counts of murder with special circumstances, attempted murder, three counts of first-degree assault, two counts of risk of injury to a child, and criminal possession of a firearm. This, after he savagely attacked a woman and two children on Main Street in Bridgeport Wednesday morning in what police are calling a "domestic dispute."
According to Connecticut News 12, the mother, 33, and two children aged six and four were brutally assaulted with a baseball bat by Sulaiman. The mother and children were hospitalized for "blunt force trauma," with the mother and four-year-old in stable condition, however, the six-year-old tragically died.
In addition to outlining the assailant's charges, WTNH reported that Sulaiman was known to the three victims and that the mother called 911 during the attack. Police found the man near the scene with blood on his hands and arms.
Surveillance footage also showed the man emerging from the rear window of an apartment building holding a baseball bat police said. He was later seen swinging it before throwing it into a nearby dumpster. When police reached the apartment, they found one child unresponsive and not breathing. Officers administering CPR were able to regain a weak pulse, however, the child had no brain activity and entered the hospital in critical condition where they later died.
The mother reported to officers that Sulaiman had threatened to kill her and the children in the past and had also sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. Officers classified the attacker as a "domestic violence incident.”
In an evening press release the Bridgeport Police said, "Facts and circumstances in this case indicate all three victims were brutally assaulted by the suspect detained by police outside the apartment."
The suspect is being held and will be arraigned on Thursday the department said per The Connecticut Times. The Associated Press reported that he was previously charged with attempted murder in New Jersey in connection to a stabbing in 2011.
A follow-up report from WFSB established that the six-year-old murder victim was identified as Jathan Escobar and that Sulaiman was his stepfather. The mother and four-year-old were identified as Sandra and Eli Escobar. Sandra told police that her husband was reportedly smoking PCP recently and was violent.
TheBlaze reported that Sulaiman was previously on probation and is being held on a $10 million bond owing to the severity of the crime. The outlet also reported that officers performing CPR on Jathan noted that brain matter was visible through the injuries to the boy's head.
