Dallas police chief latest coward to abdicate his oath of office, promises to defy federal immigration law

DALLAS, TX- When President Trump appointed Tom Homan to be his border czar, Law Enforcement Today promised to call out any law enforcement officials who decided they would defy federal immigration law and come down on the side of sanctuary policies for their respective jurisdictions. Thus far, we have followed through on that promise. The next police “leader” to abdicate his oath of office is interim Dallas (TX) police chief Michael Igo. And true to our promise, Law Enforcement Today will call him out.

Last week, Igo, as part of a series of “outreach meetings for the “immigrant communities” (read illegal aliens), the Dallas Police Department began to inform said illegals that the DPD would not participate in any deportation raids or arrests being carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the direction of Homan and the Department of Homeland Security, Fox News Digital reports.

Last week, in one of such “outreach” meetings,” Igo wanted to assure illegal aliens that his department will not assist ICE in its deportation efforts, which have ramped up significantly under the Trump administration. The early stages of the deportation efforts have focused on violent illegal aliens, including members of violent gangs such as MS-13 and Tren de Aragua.

“The Dallas Police Department is not assisting any federal agency on detaining people that are either documented or undocumented in the city of Dallas,” Igo said at a meeting at the Familia Bethel Internacional church in Dallas, CBS News reported.

Igo, who was named interim chief in October 2024, rose through the ranks of the Dallas Police Department. According to a press release, he wanted to “make safety his core priority and make sure residents feel safe.” Yes, nothing makes residents feel safe, like having undocumented gang bangers roaming around your city while you instruct your police officers to look the other way.

In his meeting at the church, Igor said the department would not turn in or report anyone in the country illegally who calls 911 for help or is pulled over for traffic violations.

“I need you guys to continue to call the police, to not be afraid to come out of your homes to go to work, to send your kids to school,” Igo said.

When Igo (and all Dallas officers) take their oath of office, they swear that they “will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this State, so help me God.”

Part of the Constitution that Igo swore to “protect and defend” includes Article IV, Section 4, which says that the United States “shall protect each of them [states] against Invasion.”

In other words, Igo is ignoring his oath of office. For example, one illegal that Igo has vowed to “protect” is Dennis Alexander Valenzuela, 37, who is a Guatemalan national wanted for murder in his home country, a news release from ICE read. Fortunately, ICE picked him up with no help from the Dallas PD.

Or how about an unnamed 45-year-old Mexican national who was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child, also picked up by ICE?

Igo’s decision to defy federal immigration law was slammed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who said officials should be complying with ICE. Deporting illegals is a popular issue, with an AP-NORC poll conducted from Jan. 9 to Jan. 13 finding that 83 percent of Americans support deporting illegals living in the U.S. who were convicted of a violent crime. Only six percent opposed doing so.

Abbott strongly criticized the Biden administration’s lax border policies and established Operation Lone Star, a state program to patrol the Texas-Mexico border.

The Trump administration has stepped up the heat on so-called “sanctuary” jurisdictions, with the Department of Justice filing lawsuits against New York and Illinois over such policies.

In a statement, Abbott’s press secretary, Andrew Mahaleris, said, “Governor Abbott fully supports using every tool and strategy to aid the Trump Administration’s deportation of illegal immigrants, and city and county officials across the state should fully cooperate in those efforts.

“The Governor directed all state agencies to coordinate with the Trump Administration on border security and deployed Department of Public Safety tactical strike teams to support homeland security operations in Dallas and across the state.”

Igo has shown himself to be a coward who is giving in to the radical pro-illegal mob and abdicating his oath of office to protect ALL the citizens of Dallas, not just illegal aliens. He’s a stain on his badge and makes a mockery out of his oath of office.

DPD chief Michael Igo needs to be arrested, tried and sent to prison for violating his Oath of Office! There is no room for this kind of disrespect for the law among law enforcement, much less the leadership.

James

This traitor and liar needs to be kicked out of office and arrested! He is a disgrace to the uniform!

So then GET AFTER IT ............

Lumpy

It's my understanding that the feds offer grants and other funding to law enforcement agencies. Maybe Dallas doesn't need that money anymore...

Steve

Another "Leader" who is really nothing more than a politician acquiescing to his City Government's commands at the perceived risk of losing his job. Independent-thinking LE leaders of large departments are rare. I agree that Federal funding/Grants should be cut off at the knees for Dallas PD. As Igor has no doubt told subordinates working for him when handing down punishment; Decisions have consequences. Goes both ways slick.
