GREEN BAY, WI - On Monday, July 14th, a woman who failed to take care of her mother for nearly a year while she rotted in bed, was sentenced to a year in prison plus nine months in jail, as well as three years extended supervision.
Court records revealed that 40-year-old Elizabeth A. Drake pleaded no contest to one count of intentionally subjecting an individual at risk to abuse, resisting an officer, and unsanitary conditions for a pet, FOX11 reported. The mother was found covered in bedsores, urine, and bug droppings.
Drake was arrested in December 2023 after a delivery driver who came to the house she shared with her 72-year-old mother heard the older woman "yelling for help," according to a criminal complaint Law & Crime reported.
Upon arriving on scene, police said the place was so filthy that the officer who wrote the complaint stated, "[I] felt that I may vomit." Police responded after a delivery driver called saying that she heard "an elderly lady banging on windows, yelling for help and to call the police."
When police approached the house, Drake was on the front porch and she told the officers that her mother was fine. When one officer told her they would need to see for themselves, Drake informed them that her mother's room was "messy." Officers entered the heavily cluttered home, which had a "very obnoxious smell" and had a mattress covered in blankets on the floor.
Officer described the smell as "animal, garbage, urine, and feces." Officers also said they observed "bugs all over the home." Drake told officers that her mother was in the bedroom.
Upon entering the bedroom, officers said they could not see the older woman "due to the amount of garbage and other items in the room." Some of those items included "soiled diapers, garbage, clothes, pop cans, and other miscellaneous items," according to the criminal complaint.
Drake's mother told police that her daughter was "holding her prisoner and she wanted to get out of the house." As officers took a closer look at the mother, they saw that she "had bed sores, urine material stuck to her hair, and what looked to be bug droppings on her."
She told police that after a fall a year prior that left her with a broken leg, Drake was "supposed to take care of her," but she said that she had not been moved from the bed to bathe or use the bathroom for "at least a year."
Police said that Drake acknowledged that the home was in "terrible condition." She also allegedly told police that her mother "chose to live" in the conditions in which she was found.
Drake was arrested at the scene. Police said she also told them that she "ignores her mom's cries for help due to it bugging her" while she runs a local crime blog called Green Bay Crime Reports.
She also ran a Green Bay Crime Reports Facebook page, which had around 164,000 before her arrest. Since her arrest, the page has dropped to 158,000 followers.
Drake told police that she had considered "adding sound proofing material" to her mother's bedroom window so no one could hear her screaming for help. She added that "she was happy this happened" so her mother could be removed from her care. Part of her sentencing includes not having any contact with her mother.
At the hospital, nurses said that the mother had bed sores on her buttocks, back, legs, and stomach. The mother said, "she could not remember the last time she was out of bed, the last time she took a shower or used the bathroom in the toilet, or the last time she was at the doctors," according to the criminal complaint.

Drake got off light. Had she done her mother like that here in Texas, she would have been charged with multiple Class 2 felonies for abusing an elderly person, and each count carries 2 to 10 years imprisonment. And when it comes to abusing the elderly here, on multiple charges, the judges like to "stack" the sentences. in other words, have the sentences be consecutive, not concurrent. We don't take kindly people who abuse our elder citizens here in Texas. And neither do the other inmates. Drake would be lucky to serve her time and get released. She most likely would NOT get parole, and would have to do the whole time. As it should be.
