NEW YORK, NY--David Mamet, a Tony-nominated and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, author, and filmmaker, compared members of the Democratic Party to “pedophiles” during an explosive Monday interview with Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime.”
Mamet made the comparison while describing the denial of reality by Democrats as akin to the members of a “dysfunctional family,” of whom one is a “pedophile,” with the rest scrambling to deny it, and arguing that the party en masse suffers from mental health problems.
“Everything in the Democrats’ playbook is denial, which takes all of a person’s mental energy,” Mamet told Watters. “It’s no different than a dysfunctional family. If you have a family and there is a pedophile, the problem is not that there is a pedophile, but the problem for everyone in the family is they have to deny that that is a pedophile. Because if they face it, the family as they know it is going to fall apart and they don’t know what comes next.”
The playwright observed, “Liberals have poor mental health because they spend all their time denying reality…” and described it as “horrific, legitimate, but horrific,” adding, “That’s where the Democrats are now.”
Mamet’s assertion that Democrats are mentally overtaxed would appear to be supported in a dataset recently released by Tufts University and cited by Nate Silver from the 2022 Cooperative Election Study which found that 45% of voters who self-identified with poor mental health also self-described as politically liberal, while only 19% identified themselves as conservative. Likewise, voters who told interviewers they had excellent mental health self-identified as conservative 51% of the time. Only 20% of those identified as liberal could say the same.
Just one day prior to his appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Mamet sparred with prominent liberal commentator Bill Maher on his “Club Random” podcast when the host claimed that President Donald Trump “inspire(d) people to riot” on January 6th. “How did he inspire people to riot?” Mamet asked incredulously. “By not conceding the election!” Maher replied, according to Mediate. “Oh, come on!” Mamet answered.
Maher claimed that Trump’s refusal to concede defeat in 2020 inspired “half the country to not accept the basic democratic principle that we have elections, and when you lose, you go away and then you become the loyal opposition.” To which Mamet exploded, “You’re full of shit! I don’t understand when you say that he did not say the words ‘I concede’ caused half the country — which you just said — to riot.”
