Detroit police chief gaslights the public, don't believe our own eyes - 'Crime is down'

DETROIT, MI - The gaslighting of the American people continues. Only days before the American people dismissed being lied to by the media, Democrats, and political hack “police leaders and elected Donald Trump to a landslide win, the chief of the Detroit Police Department dismissed Trump’s claim that crime in the United States is out of control.

In a campaign stop in Detroit before the election, Trump said, “You can’t walk across the street to get a loaf of bread. You get shot, you get mugged, you get raped.”

In yet another example of why nobody trusts the mainstream media, NBC News wrote, “But several years of national data tell the opposite story: Crime is falling in cities and towns across the United States. NBC News recently spent a day with Detroit police, who say Trump’s characterization is false.”

“That’s simply not true,” Detroit Police Chief James White said. “I invite him to walk the streets of Detroit, and I’d be more than happy to do that with him and show him how Detroit is performing.”

NBC News and White apparently “overlooked” the fact that the FBI recently revised its data upward. In addition, the media is relying on the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), a much less reliable barometer of crime statistics.

Granted, some crimes are down, in particular murder. In Detroit, they had 252 homicides last year, the lowest number since 1966. However, the claim that violent crime and property crime are down is a fallacy.

A recent piece in Law Enforcement Today explained that, for one, the FBI made a significant update to its 2022 crime data that more closely aligns with the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), a much more accurate measure of crime rates.

For example, the survey found that 60 percent of violent crimes and 70 percent of property crimes are not reported to police. In 2023, violent crime reporting rose slightly to 45 percent, while the FBI showed a three percent decrease.

In other words, there are statistics, and there are damn statistics. And White, another big-city political hack police “leader,” is using FBI statistics to gaslight the public. And NBC, which as a “leading” news organization, had to know better, ignored the updated FBI crime statistics that showed an increase in violent crime as a means to attack President-elect Trump.

White went along with the program, however.

“I don’t think there’s a chief in America that will tell you we can all go home now, crime has ended in our communities,” White said. “But when we compare where we are today, where we were yesterday, and where we were last year, and certainly where we were during the pandemic, we have reduced crime in the city of Detroit.”

Despite White’s attempt to put lipstick on a pig, Detroit is still one of the most crime-ridden cities in the country. Still, credit where it is due–nonfatal shootings dropped 18% last year, while carjackings dropped by a third–statistically.

NBC, however, continues to lie to the American people. Completely ignoring the updated FBI numbers, the outlet continued to claim that “violent crime fell nationally in 2023 for the second year in a row.” However, the NCVS showed violent crime reporting rose to 45 percent, while the FBI showed a 3 percent decrease.

It's clear that a majority of Americans no longer trust the mainstream media to be truthful. Instead, they are turning to social media and independent journalists to get their news. This shift in news consumption is empowering the public to seek out alternative sources and take control of their information, rather than relying solely on traditional outlets like NBC.

While NBC acknowledges that the statistics can be skewed due to the FBI's change in how it measures crime statistics, it's crucial to understand the full impact of this change. Many big cities were not included in the data for some of the years NBC cites, which significantly influences the accuracy of the reported crime statistics.

What White and NBC News ignore is the fact that in many American cities, people do not feel safe going out, especially after dark. People feel unsafe going to Times Square in New York, the Embarcadero in San Francisco, or the Strip in Las Vegas. Statistics may say one thing, but people’s eyeballs see another.
