PHILADELPHIA, PA - An illegal alien who was previously deported for fentanyl trafficking was arrested by officers from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week in Philadelphia, KATU-2 reported.
Virginia Basora-Gonzalez, a Dominican national, was arrested on March 12 as part of a joint operation, ICE officials said.
This was not Basora-Gonzalez’s first rodeo. In 2020, she was deported to the Dominican Republic after she pleaded guilty to attempted possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and aiding and abetting. She had been sentenced to 12 months and one day of confinement, along with four years of supervised release, however, she was booted from the US before serving her sentence.
ICE officials said Basora-Gonzales illegally reentered the United States, however, they were uncertain when.
An affidavit obtained by the Daily Mail showed authorities learned of her return when she was dimed out by a confidential informant, who reported her presence on March 7. Basora-Gonzalez was taken into custody outside a North Philadelphia restaurant where she apparently worked as a cook.
When she was taken into custody, she broke down in tears.
“The apprehension of Virginia Basora-Gonzalez demonstrates our commitment to protecting our communities from criminal aliens who engage in serious illegal activities that pose a threat to public safety,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Philadelphia acting Field Office Director Brian McShane.
Authorities confirmed her identity using the FBI fingerprint database. When she was taken into custody, ICE issued her a notice of intent to reinstate her prior removal order. A U.S. magistrate judge issued a federal arrest warrant and criminal complaint, then turned her over to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Basora-Gonzalez will remain in federal custody pending charges of illegal reentry after deportation in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
