"Education"? Elderly Wisconsin teacher convicted on multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor

TOMAH, WI – A 74-year-old private school teacher, Anne Nelson-Koch, was convicted on 25 counts of sexual abuse of a student. She now faces up to 600 years in prison.

Nelson-Koch’s criminal actions transpired during the 2016-17 school year, at which time she was 67 and the male victim was 14 years old. Each of these assaults were enacted in the basement of the school, located in the small town of less than 10,000. The town sits nestled at the the merge of Interstates 90 and 94, just northwest of the state capital, Wisconsin.

According to The Blaze, the trial lasted three days and the jury deliberation took only five hours to render a guilty verdict on all 25 charges.

Per Dan Abram’s website, Law & Crime, “The charges were 12 counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child; four counts of child enticement sexual conduct, eight counts of exposing intimate parts to a child, and a count of intimidating a victim.”

Sarah Skiles, the lead prosecutor and Monroe County Assistant District Attorney, said, "The victim of these crimes is an incredibly brave young man. He spoke the truth, and the jury heard him loud and clear. We are so grateful to the jury for their dedication to finding the truth."

Skiles' statement also pointed to Tomah Police Department lead investigator, Paul Sloan, praising his police work. "We could not have achieved this outcome without the victim’s strength and Investigator Sloan’s dedication and thorough investigation," she said.

After the convictions, the prosecution asked the defendant to be held until sentencing. Instead, Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Richard Radcliffe released her on bail with the additional requirement for her to wear a GPS ankle monitor.

Nelson-Koch will be back in court on October 27th for sentencing. Given her age, the sentencing could potentially lead to the former teacher spending the rest of her life behind bars.
