Father of three, well-known business man murdered by career criminal while on his way to his 20-year high school reunion

CHATTANOOGA, TN - According to Fox News, a prominent business man and father of three was murdered while in downtown Chattanooga just moments before heading to his 20-year high school reunion.

On September 28th, Christopher Wright, 38, was fatally shot by a man with a lengthy rap sheet. Surveillance video shows Wright talking to Darryl Roberts and another man before walking away. He was allegedly arguing with the two men on the street.

As he walked away, Roberts approached Wright and allegedly shot him. One witness told authorities that Roberts, also known as "Too Tall," shot Wright square in the head. Wright was rushed to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead.

According to authorities, Roberts fled the scene but was arrested the very next day by U.S. Marshals and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). He has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a five-million-dollar bond.

Roberts has a long criminal history with close to 60 charges for various crimes. In 2003, he was allegedly shoplifting from a TJ-Maxx inside of a mall when security guards said that he brandished a knife. During that incident, Roberts allegedly said, "Here it is and I'll do anything it takes to get out of here!"

An arrest report said that he then allegedly began to punch the security door and threated store employees. He then reportedly smiled at responding officers and licked the pepper spray away from his own face.

Then, in 2009 he was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm after allegedly pulling a gun on a store clerk who refused to sell him beer. One year later, in 2010, he allegedly fired several shots through a door during a home invasion.

Citing local media reports, the New York Post reported that despite being arrested more than five dozen times, Roberts never served more than six months in jail.

Wright, a father of three including to an eight-week old baby, attended Yale University and the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. Chris Angel, the Baylor School president, said that the community is "heartbroken" after learning of Wright's untimely death.

In a statement, Angel wrote, "The Baylor School community is heartbroken to learn of the sudden death of Christopher Wright, '03, who would have celebrated his 20th class reunion this weekend with his fellow classmates. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris and his family for their devastating loss."

A GoFundMe page has been setup in support of Wright's family. The page said, "Chris was a doting husband and amazing father. He was a beloved son and brother, admired friend and accomplished businessman. His accolades were many."

In response to the shooting, Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly said, "Gun violence is taking a serious personal toll on people's lives and hurting Chattanoogans' ability to feel safe in our community. Like every proud resident of Chattanooga, I'm outraged at every life lost at the hands of those committing senseless, violent acts."

He added, "I'm sick of it and as mayor, I will not tolerate it. If you commit violent crime in Chattanooga, you can be certain that we will use every tool in our arsenal to lock you up."
