MIAMI, FL - Federal law enforcement is investigating a deceased Miami real estate developer, with the belief that he tried to assassinate his estranged wife multiple times over a period of years.

Sergio Pino, 67, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Coral Gables, Florida mansion in July. The multi-millionaire businessman took his own life as law enforcement arrived at his residence to carry out a search in connection to the investigation- and arrest him for allegedly hiring two different crews of hit men to kill Tatiana Pino, according to the Miami Herald.

Cohen described an incident in which a gunman pointed a firearm at Tatiana Pino at Sergio Pino's estranged wife arrived at her home.

"[Tatiana] came home from her morning errands, and as she pulled in the driveway, this person pulled up, got out of the car with a firearm," Cohen said of the incident. "Her daughter actually came out of the house and kind of went face to face with this gunman who clearly wasn't there for the daughter because he, from what I understand, he had the ability to shoot her if he wanted to, and he didn't."

Tatiana Pino escaped the situation by driving into her backyard and honking to obtain her daughter's attention. Vernon Green, 53, is facing criminal charges in connection with what authorities are describing as this assassination attempt.

Six different individuals are facing federal charges in connection to what authorities believe were murder-for-hire attempts on Tatiana Pino. Three others face charges related to arson and stalking, with the former in connection to incidents in which Tatiana Pino's sisters' cars were found burned.

"I've been in law enforcement for 27 years, and something like this... It seemed like something out of a Hollywood movie, but this was unfortunately real life," Pinecrest, Florida Police Chief Jason Cohen said of the wide-ranging investigation into Sergio Pino's alleged assassination attempts, according to Fox News.

Tatiana Pino also alleged during divorce proceedings that she has been poisoned with fentanyl on multiple occasions, according to the New York Post. Pino alleged that her husband had a "financial motive" in seeking her death in the proceedings.

"It would appear he saw it was coming down. He likely thought he was going to get charged with this," Cohen told Fox of Sergio Pino's death by suicide. "It definitely, in my opinion, is very telling of someone with a guilty conscience, but just my law enforcement opinion of a 27-year veteran."
