Florida Man Posted Snapchat of 110 MPH Drive With Infant in Backseat, Cops Say

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL- It’s been a week in Florida. In the same week a man was arrested in Tallahassee in connection with the beating death of a one-year-old girl, an Arcadia man has been arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol for driving at 115 mph on I-75, according to WBBH, an NBC affiliate, and KESQ, an ABC affiliate.

In itself, that is bad enough, but he also had a 10-month-old baby in the back seat.

Charles Wheeler II was pulled over by the Highway Patrol after being clocked at 115 mph, weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, and using his cell phone.

In the backseat of his vehicle was his girlfriend's child. Troopers said Wheeler nearly crashed while trying to avoid a mattress in the middle of the highway. Wheeler was charged with reckless driving and child neglect.

Troopers say that as Wheeler was on the way to Charlotte County Jail, his phone began blaring vulgar music.

When the trooper attempted to silence the device, he found a Snapchat video showing Wheeler’s speedometer at 110 mph with the caption, “Good Vibes Only.”

According to jail records, Wheeler was initially held on $3,500 bond–$1,000 for the reckless driving charge, and $2,500 for the child neglect charge–and was released the following day.

Jail records show that Wheeler’s criminal record dates back to 2016, when he was arrested on multiple substance and theft charges.

He was subsequently charged with failure to appear on those charges. In 2018, he was charged with violation of probation.

A search of court records didn’t show when his arraignment date will be.
