STARKE, FL - A woman in her forties fatally shot her boyfriend while they were in bed together after an argument, while her young children were in the home.
The alleged suspect, 42-year-old Stephanie Michelle Johnson, is accused of second-degree murder in the shooting death of 41-year-old David James Wroblewski, according to Law & Crime. The Bradford County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) said it received a call around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, August 31 from a teen who said his younger sister called him and said their mother had killed Wroblewski.
Upon arriving on scene, deputies found Johnson outside the home in the 1000 block of Meadows Drive in Starke. Johnson allegedly told the first deputy that arrived that "it's me, we have been fighting for the last days." Deputies then went inside, where they found the victim suffering a gunshot wound on the right side of his abdomen. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Johnson was taken in for questioning and later said she "should not have done that and should have talked to her son." After the incident, BCSO Sheriff Gordon Smith told the public that their first concern was of the kids involved. "Evil showed up, and we're here addressing it. Our first concern is the well-being of the kids involved."
After she was read her Miranda rights, detectives spoke to Johnson in an interview. She said she and Wroblewski had been together about four years, but while the relationship started out well, it had been deteriorating recently. Per the probable cause arrest affidavit, she said that Wroblewski "screamed at her throughout the night" on Friday. Then, they had another argument on Saturday.
Deputies noted, however, that she was "unable to provide a clear chronological timeline of the events as they occurred." Johnson said she grabbed a gun from a nightstand as they argued. She said Wroblewski told her "I don't give a f*ck, shoot me, shoot me." After that, she pulled the trigger, according to authorities.
"Stephanie recalled hearing the gunshot and stated that she smelled a burning odor afterward," detectives wrote. "She advised that her anxiety increased following the discharge, at which time she took a diazepam pill and smoked part of David's marijuana joint."
The suspect said they were both naked because they had sex earlier, so she put Wroblewski's underwear on him. She said she was never in fear of her life during the incident and Wroblewski had never been violent toward her. Johnson was booked into the Bradford County Jail.
