Florida Woman Tries to Stab Husband, Claims She Needed to ‘Sacrifice’ Him and Their Son

SEMINOLE, FL - Authorities said that a man was injured when his wife tried to stab him twice, attempting to kill him after she said she needed to sacrifice him and their son.

Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) were called to a home on Tara Cay Court just after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, in reference to an assault and battery. Upon arriving on scene, deputies found Richard Dedert outside in a robe with a cut on his forearm, WTSP reported.

He told deputies that he woke up to his 58-year-old wife, Karen, standing over him at 5:00 a.m., asking, "Where is our son?" When he questioned her, she said, "I need to sacrifice and kill you both," according to the arrest affidavit.

Richard said that his wife then tried to stab him with a large knife, but he was able to block the attack and disarm her. He then locked himself in a downstairs bedroom. At 7:45 a.m., he left the room to shower, and afterward, she lunged at him with the knife, deputies wrote. The wife was trying to stab him in the abdomen, but Richard raised his arms to defend himself and was cut on his forearm.

While they were fighting over the knife, Karen allegedly kept yelling, "I'm going to kill you," according to the arrest report. Richard was able to disarm her again and escape the home when he called law enforcement.

When they arrived at the home, deputies said that Karen was still inside. They entered the home and detained her. She was escorted to a patrol vehicle and did not want to speak with law enforcement, but spontaneously said, "These aren't the clothes I was wearing when I stabbed him."

Karen was arrested and booked in the Pinellas County Jail, at first without bond. On Wednesday, November 5, she was granted $100,000 bond, according to Law & Crime. In the event she makes bond, she will be placed on GPS monitoring and must have no contact with her husband. She will also be allowed one visit to her residence in order to collect some of her personal belongings. She has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.
