FLORIDA – General Mike Flynn shared a response on social media regarding an article featured in MS NOW’s “MaddowBlog” which framed his prior settlement with the federal government pertaining to the lawfare he was subjected to in 2017 as “a miscarriage of justice” with a second pending settlement as adding “insult to injury.”
On April 27th, Steve Benen, who serves as a producer for “The Rachel Maddow Show,” penned an article for MS NOW’s “MaddowBlog” which characterized Gen. Flynn’s settlements with the Justice Department as being tantamount to an injustice.
According to Benen, the mere fact Gen. Flynn had previously pleaded guilty to offenses back in 2017 which he was later cleared and pardoned of due to the government admitting the lawfare was inappropriate, Gen. Flynn should’ve never received any kind of settlement.
In light of a second pending settlement between the federal government and Gen. Flynn regarding garnishments of his military retirement, Benen opined in his article, “the fact Flynn is walking away with any taxpayer money at all is awfully tough to defend under the circumstances.”
The aforementioned opinion piece from Benen benefited from the full weight of MS NOW and Rachel Maddow’s social media presence, with both the outlet and media personality sharing the article with Maddow going so far as to caption the shared article with, “When Trump’s Justice Department agreed to a $1.25 million settlement with Michael Flynn, it was a travesty. Believe it or not, Flynn is now getting a second settlement, adding insult to injury.”
Gen. Flynn took to Facebook earlier in April in response to the article and Maddow’s added commentary, rhetorically asking, “A travesty The Rachel Maddow Show???” The former National Security Advisor went on to detail the form of lawfare he was subjected to which culminated in his prior settlement.
“They ambushed me in the White House without a lawyer, hid a massive amount of exculpatory evidence, significantly and intentionally altered FBI documents, and unleashed the full force of the federal government against me, a retired U.S. Army general simply trying to continue to serve our country AND also came after my family (so spare me your false anger),” Gen. Flynn wrote in response.
Gen. Flynn countered Benen’s characterization of his received and pending settlements with the federal government, describing them as “accountability” rather than the negative connotations Benen ascribed and Maddow echoed.
“That is what a travesty looks like, Rachel. The settlements are called accountability. You might want to look that word up right after you finish apologizing to the American people for years of promoting the false Russia hoax hysteria that you nightly cried your way through on national television,” the former White House official concluded.
