OPA LOCKA, FL - On Monday, July 15th, police arrested the man responsible for fatally shooting his co-worker following an argument they had at work.
According to Local 10, police were dispatched to Arrow Asphalt & Engineering just after 6:00 a.m. after receiving reports of gunshots. The location of the company was 3051 NW 129th Street. Upon arriving on scene, police said that one of the men involved in the argument had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Police then confirmed that the deceased man was 38-year-old Andre Lenard White. The victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside of the business. The arrest report states that 40-year-old Maurice Antwan Williams first got into an argument with White back on July 9th, which led to White poking Williams in the forehead.
During that incident, police said Williams then hit White and co-workers separated both men. Williams was then ordered to leave the job site, per his supervisor. Police said that Williams came back on Monday morning, nearly a week later, on July 15th and was told by his supervisor to go home for the day.
White began walking to his vehicle, which was parked along a dirt road. Co-workers told detectives that in that moment, they saw Williams sprint to his vehicle, fumble around in the driver's section, then run towards were White was last seen walking. Moments later, they heard "several rapid gunshots."
Williams walked back to his vehicle and said he would wait for the police. According to the arrest report, when speaking with detectives, Williams claimed that White had approached him, struck him in the back of the head causing him to fall to his knees, and then placed him in a chokehold.
Police said that the victim's body was transported to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. Jail records show that Williams is facing one count of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. As of Tuesday, July 16th, he was still at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center since his bond has not yet been determined.
In a separate incident, an Opa-Locka man has been arrested after police said that he doused his girlfriend in gasoline and then attempted to run her over near a North Miami gas station. According to Local 10, 25-year-old Khristion Amari Owens is facing charges that include attempted murder with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, grand theft of a vehicle, battery, and criminal mischief.
The incident took place back on May 6th, but was not arrested until Monday, July 15th. After getting into an argument with his girlfriend while pumping gas into her mother's vehicle, Owens grabbed a nozzle and began pouring gasoline "all over the body" of the victim. Fearing for her life, the victim told police that she ran into the gas station, but was followed by Owens.
While in the gas station, investigators said Owens "began striking her on her face and body with open and closed hands." Owens reportedly pulled the victim out of the store by her hair. After exiting the store, investigators said Owens "forcefully pushed her into the vehicle against her will and activated the child lock to prevent her from exiting the cart and drove away in the victim's vehicle."
Police said that Owens drove "erratically throughout the local neighborhood" and continued punching the victim, who was eventually able to escape the vehicle and ran towards a nearby home screaming for help. Surveillance video captured the victim screaming, "Call the police!" as she approached the front door of someone who lived in the area.
According to the arrest report, Owens, who was still in possession of the vehicle, drove towards his girlfriend "at a high rate of speed in an attempt to run her over." Police said the victim was able to go up onto the front porch of the house, but was still struck on her leg by the vehicle Owens was driving.
The vehicle collided with the residence causing nearly $5,000 in damages to the property. The victim swallowed gasoline, causing her to feel ill. She also sustained a cut on her right ear and an injury to her right leg. Police confirmed that Owens had an active bench warrant out for his arrest following a separate domestic battery incident.
