With Police Week and Mother’s Day just around the corner, we at Law Enforcement Today wanted to highlight just a few of the incredible stories of brave women who protect and serve across the United States. In a series brought to viewers by InVest USA, this episode of “Best In The Vest” showcases women in various ranks and roles, emphasizing their dedication, resilience, and passion for service.
In this episode, we meet Officer Candace Canaval, a former Miss Arizona USA and current Tempe police officer, who initially pursued politics but found a more direct way to make a difference through law enforcement. Her story reflects the human side of policing, emphasizing that officers are ordinary people with families, dreams, and community pride.
Next, we hear from Trooper Gooding of the Texas Highway Patrol. Her journey, inspired by early positive encounters with law enforcement and a background in firearms instruction, illustrates how women can bring unique skills and perspectives to policing. Jacqueline emphasizes that diversity in gender, race, and background strengthens law enforcement agencies.
Then Captain Lauren Petty of the Tucson Police Department shares her passion for action and leadership. From overseeing air support units to hostage negotiations, her career showcases the diverse opportunities within modern law enforcement.
Finally, retired Assistant Police Chief Karen Fox of the San Antonio Police Department recounts her early experiences in a male-dominated field. She highlights the progress women have made in policing and encourages others to pursue careers in law enforcement with confidence and resilience.
Backing these courageous women, and countless others, is InVest USA, a nonprofit organization founded by Michael Letts in 1993. With the mission to "Protect Those Who Protect Us," InVest USA provides free active shooter vests to officers and first responders nationwide.
These life-saving vests are often unaffordable for smaller departments or underfunded agencies. Through fundraising, community partnerships, and corporate sponsorships, InVest USA ensures that officers have access to the critical protection they need. Their work not only saves lives but also demonstrates a profound civic appreciation for those who serve.
The stories of women in law enforcement showcased in "From Grit to Glory" are a testament to courage, determination, and progress. Organizations like InVest USA play a pivotal role in supporting these officers by ensuring their safety on the job. Together, with community support and continued advocacy, we can celebrate and strengthen the ranks of those who dedicate their lives to public service.
