Critics of Trump’s DC Police Move Are the Same Officials Overseeing Crime-Ridden Jurisdictions

WASHINGTON, DC- President Trump is trying to do something about crime in our nation’s capital and is using every means at his disposal to do so. He is within his legal right to federalize the police department and use the National Guard and federal law enforcement to supplement the DC Metro Police.

Of course, anything Trump does is subject to criticism from the screeching voices on the left. The president could cure cancer, and the far left would criticize him for putting pharmaceutical companies on the verge of bankruptcy. The most ironic thing is that those screaming the loudest oversee the most crime-ridden cesspools in the country.

According to The Daily Wire, federal authorities have arrested over 100 people since the president federalized the police department after declaring a state of emergency in Washington, D.C. That matters not to people such as Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD), Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Democrat mayors Brandon Scott of Baltimore, Barbara Lee of Oakland, and Karen Bass of Los Angeles, and Greasy Gavin Newsom, governor of California.

As the outlet notes, those officials oversee the most crime-ridden areas in the U.S. For example, Lee’s Oakland is ranked second on a list of the most dangerous cities in the US, while Scott presides over Baltimore, ranked fourth, according to U.S. News & World Report.

On a ranking of states, California and Maryland rank in the top 20 dangerous states in the country.

“If Democrats had any sense, they would follow President Trump’s lead to crack down on violent crime that has plagued our nation’s capital–and Democrat-run cities across the country,” White House deputy press secretary Taylor Rogers told The Daily Wire.

“Instead of criticizing President Trump’s popular, tough-on-crime policies, they should focus on cleaning up their own cities, which are some of the most dangerous places in America,” Rogers added. “Public safety isn’t political; it’s a top priority for every American, and the Democrats continue to brush it under the rug.”

On Thursday, President Trump echoed Rogers’ comments when talking to The Daily Wire in the Oval Office, noting Democrats would be much better off saying, “We want to help President Trump with the crime because it is an epidemic.”

“People are so happy to see our military going into D.C. and getting these thugs out,” Trump told The Daily Wire during a Q&A at the White House. “As you know, we arrested a lot of people yesterday…we are getting people that have arrest records that you wouldn’t believe.”

“It’s another reason why the Democrats lost the election in a landslide,” the president continued. “They lie.”

Newsom, who fancies himself a presidential contender in 2028, has been increasing his rhetoric recently, and it is clear the president resides in his vapid skull 24/7. In a post on X last week, Newsom, with no sense of self-awareness, compared the president to a dictator.

That was laughable coming from someone who had police arresting people paddleboarding by themselves at beaches, attending church services, and gathering outside in groups at parks during the pandemic. Newsom also endorsed Biden administration policies that fired public employees for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Yet Trump is a “dictator,” and was blamed for the closing of hundreds if not thousands of California businesses.

The president, during his Monday press conference announcing the federalization of the Metro Police, singled out Baltimore and Oakland for criticism and suggested they might need government help.

“And then you have, of course, Baltimore and Oakland. We don’t even mention that anymore there. They are so far gone. We’re not going to let it happen.”

Oakland’s mayor dismissed the president’s claims.

In a statement, Lee said, “President Trump’s characterization of Oakland is wrong and not grounded in facts, but in fear-mongering. This is not leadership–it’s an attempt to score cheap political points by tearing down communities he doesn’t understand.

“Our comprehensive public safety strategy is working–crime rates are coming down even though we still face many challenges. And let me repeat, President Trump is wrong.”

Moore, meanwhile, who has also been floated as a 2028 candidate, criticized the president’s characterization of Baltimore. He claimed to be “heartbroken” for National Guard members deployed in D.C. and alleged it is being used as a “tool” to distract the president’s opponents.

“What we’re seeing right now, this distraction, distracting away from the fact that Donald Trump’s policies have caused unemployment to go up [a lie], have caused people to lose their health care [he hasn’t] have caused children to be able to lose their food benefits [only junk food and illegal aliens], and he’s now using this as a tool,” Moore told CNN.

“He’s using military personnel, these citizen soldiers, as a cudgel, and as a tool to be able to advance his political purposes.”

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson dismissed Moore’s remarks in an interview with Newsweek, calling them “embarrassing” to Moore.

“What’s truly embarrassing and heartbreaking is how long Democrat leaders have allowed violent crime to surge out of control in cities without taking action. It’s heartbreaking that in Washington, D.C., innocent people are robbed, assaulted, and killed far too often.”

Memphis, Tennessee, is ranked as the most dangerous city in the country; however, its Democratic mayor, Paul Young, did not address the president’s decision to deploy the National Guard. The Daily Wire reached out to Young; however, his office didn’t immediately respond.

Nor did St.Louis, Missouri, Mayor Cara Spencer, where her city shows up at number three on the U.S. News & World Report survey.

In Detroit, meanwhile, number five on the survey, it is led by independent Mayor Mike Duggan, whose spokesman referred The Daily Wire to crime stats showing a drop in the city’s crime rate in 2024. The spokesman, John Roach, also noted that the Detroit Police Department already partners with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the DEA, ATF, and FBI in reducing gun violence.

“With the enhanced efforts of the new U.S. Attorney, Jerome Gorgon, Detroit this year is experiencing the lowest level of gun violence since 1965,” Roach told The Daily Wire. “Expanded funding for federal prosecutors and their supporting federal agencies (ATF, DEA, FBI) would speed up the violence reduction trends and would be strongly welcomed by the city.

“We have no indication from the federal government that they have any plans to disrupt the highly successful federal/city partnerships currently in place,” Roach added.
