NEW YORK, NY - Border Czar Tom Homan appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity,” where he addressed the rhetoric coming from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul regarding alleged Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “overreach,” pointing to what he described as the hypocrisy of New York’s sanctuary policies and the threats they pose to both American and immigrant communities.
During the appearance, host Sean Hannity discussed Mamdani and Hochul’s efforts to invest millions of taxpayer dollars into combating what they have described as “ICE overreach.” Hannity noted that the funding will go toward legal services for unaccompanied migrant children, while state officials are also defending a new law restricting cooperation between local police departments and federal immigration authorities.
Homan didn’t mince words in his response, accusing Mamdani and Hochul of misleading the public about legal representation for migrant children. He argued that a newly implemented contract providing representation during immigration proceedings is performing better than the previous arrangement.
“They want to spend millions of dollars of New York taxpayers' money on defending migrant children because they said we abandoned them. No, we didn't abandon them. We just changed contracts. We have a contract in place right now that defends the children at a better rate than was being done in the past. There hasn't been one child at a hearing that hasn't been represented by a lawyer under this new contract. So don't say we're abandoning these children,” Homan stated.
Homan then turned his attention to New York’s sanctuary policies, arguing that Mamdani and Hochul are contributing to the very public safety concerns they claim to be addressing.
“The only people that abandoned children are you, because you say you care about the safety of the children, you care about the safety of the communities. Well, since I've been Border Czar…New York state has denied over 14,000 detainers,” Homan emphasized.
Regarding the offenders New York allegedly released despite immigration detainers, Homan said, “Who are they; 6,800 illegal aliens with assault convictions, 800 convictions for child crimes. Don't tell me you're trying to protect children. You're releasing predators to the street every day across that state. You got 770 convictions for rape or other sex crimes. I'm sick of the lying I'm sick of the distortion of the facts.”
Homan went on to defend ICE, contrasting the agency’s enforcement efforts with the policies enacted by sanctuary jurisdictions.
“ICE are the ones that have arrested hundreds of thousands of criminal aliens and deporting them, making this country safer. ICE, the one that found 151,000 missing children. And we still got more to find.”
