How Blue Friday Keeps Memories of Fallen Heroes Alive

ALBANY, NY - As communities across the country prepare to honor fallen officers and support those left behind, Blue Friday of New York is once again stepping up with its annual events aimed at remembering the sacrifice of law enforcement and raising funds for their families.

This year’s Blue Friday event, taking place April 24 and April 25, will bring together officers, supporters, and community members for a series of gatherings centered around remembrance, unity, and giving back.

Sponsors like Metro Ford of Schenectady are helping make these events possible, reinforcing the kind of community partnerships that continue to support law enforcement when it matters most.

Blue Friday of New York, a 501(c)(3) organization, focuses on assisting the families of officers killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. Their mission is simple but powerful: ensure that those families know they are never alone.

Through efforts like grief counseling support, assistance with attending National Police Memorial events, and help navigating the aftermath of a line-of-duty death, the organization fills a critical gap that too often goes overlooked.

The weekend’s events  kicked off on April 24 with a special appearance at BJ’s Restaurant in Colonie, followed by a major memorial ride on April 25 beginning at Spitzies Harley-Davidson in Albany

Metro Ford of Schenectady is among the sponsors supporting these efforts, helping ensure the event can continue to grow and reach more families in need.

One of the highlights this year is the appearance of Erik Estrada, best known for his role as Officer “Ponch” Poncherello on the hit television series CHiPs.

Beyond his Hollywood career, Estrada serves as a reserve police officer in multiple jurisdictions, including the Muncie Police Department in Indiana.

Participants in the memorial ride will gather in the morning, with a bike blessing scheduled just before a police-escorted procession to the New York State Police Memorial. Attendees will lay a wreath and conclude the ceremony with a prayer honoring those who gave their lives in service.

Supporters will also have opportunities to meet Estrada during the events, with proceeds from merchandise and donations going directly toward Blue Friday’s mission. Metro Ford of Schenectady’s sponsorship plays a role in helping facilitate this incredible opportunity.

At a time when law enforcement families continue to face unimaginable challenges, events like Blue Friday serve as a reminder that their sacrifices are not forgotten and not taken for granted, and that their community still stands firmly behind those who protect and serve.
