Analysis: Hunter Biden indictments are Jack Weiss' attempt to protect him from Congressional inquiry

WASHINGTON, DC- When first crackhead, er first son Hunter Biden was (finally) indicted on tax charges last week, it seemed at first blush to be a case of justice finally being served. However, to those who have been paying attention, the tax charges were the least of Hunter Biden’s problems. Had there been an objective special counsel interested in exploring the depths of Biden family corruption, he would have also been indicted for FARA (Foreign Agent Registration Act) crimes.

Moreover, it was convenient for Hunter Biden that he was indicted the week before he was scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee this week, a turn of events that wasn’t lost on House Oversight Committee Chair Rep James Comer (R-Kentucky). He said Friday that Special Counsel David Weiss indicted Hunter Biden to shield him from said testimony.

“My concern is that Weiss may have indicted Biden to protect him from having to be deposed in the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday,” Comer told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Comer argued that the entire investigation being conducted by Weiss, where Biden has been indicted on about a dozen federal charges relating to a 2018 gun purchase and evading taxes, as “the least little thing.”

“Look what he’s done,” Comer said. “Anybody else in America would already be in prison.”

Comer insisted that Biden is guilty of illegal foreign lobbying and “influence peddling” by his father, Robert L. Peters, aka Joe Biden. Foreign entities paid Hunter Biden millions of dollars despite having no marketable skills other than who his father is. Thus far, Biden hasn’t been charged with lobbying offenses, which appear to be clearly designed to keep his crimes at a distance from his father.

Fox Business host Larry Kudlow appears to agree with Comer, saying Friday that Biden’s indictment made him “untouchable” from House investigators seeking to depose him this coming Wednesday, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported, as noted by The Liberty Daily.

“Hunter is going to use this as an excuse to avoid any private deposition under oath before any congressional oversight or judicial or ways and means committees, or worst case, he’ll take the fifth [amendment] if he has to go up there,” Kudlow said.

Before the indictments, there had been speculation that Biden would not show for his testimony, which led Comer and House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to tell reporters if he didn’t show, the House might hold him in contempt of Congress. With the indictments last week, all bets are now off.

“What he will not be forced to do is to reveal all the details of the alleged influence peddling and bribery crimes that might just happen to come up in a discussion about his failure to register as a foreign agent,” Kudlow continued. “Let me italicize the foreign agent part, because the Weiss indictment didn’t include that for some reason, maybe an oversight. The whole world knows that Papa Biden was involved with his son’s business.”

In an appearance with Fox News host Jesse Waters Thursday, former United States Attorney Brett Tolman told Waters, “He’s going to plead the Fifth because he now has a criminal charge in California.”

Kudlow speculated Weiss decided to indict Biden before this week’s testimony to protect him.

“My nonlegal suspicion is that this whole series of events actually brings GOP oversight investigators further away from Joe Biden because Hunter’s going to be untouchable for quite some time,” Kudlow said. “And if I were really a cynic, I would say the special counsel, David Weiss–who has zero credibility–decided to put Hunter on ice for exactly this reason.”

Meanwhile, George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he believes the indictment “is a circle that is getting tighter around the president.”

“It is clear that the president has lied. He obviously lied during the first campaign when he said he had no knowledge of these dealings. Hunter himself contradicted that. Hunter’s associate said it was utter nonsense in recent statements after his testimony. He also said that his son didn’t make any money in China. That obviously is not true.”

Two Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblowers, Gary Shapley and Joseph Zieger, testified at a July 19 House Oversight Committee hearing that there had been interference in the investigation into Biden by the Department of Justice.

“I can just imagine the phone calls between Weiss and Attorney General Merrick Garland,” Kudlow mused.
