Stafford Twp, NJ: An ICE agent who was reportedly hit by a fleeing suspect's van has received significant injuries, reports said, but is expected to recover.
On the morning of Monday, June 15th, it was reported that an ICE agent was talking to a suspect during a traffic stop and attempted to give the driver orders to roll the window of his vehicle down. However, the suspect chose to flee in his vehicle, seriously impacting the ICE agent.
As a response to the violent encounter, the ICE agent pulled out his service weapon and opened fire.
"They tell him to roll down his window, he's inching forward and you can tell it's getting tense by his inching forward. As soon as he gunned it, you just see the front of the van, pin the lower half of the officer's body into the officer's car," a local resident told the media. "You just see the guy's body just get twisted and mangled and in that twist, you know, he then pulled out his gun and shot at the van.”
According to reports, the agent’s bullets hit the vehicle and shattered the rear window.
The condition of the ICE agent was not immediately available, however, it is believed the agent is significantly injured but is expected to survive. ICE recently provided a statement regarding the incident.
"On June 15, 2026, ICE law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted vehicle stop in Manahawkin, New Jersey to arrest Friedrich Castillo-Ormeno, an illegal alien from Peru who was released into our country under the Biden administration. He was given a final order of removal by an immigration judge on January 30, 2026," a spokesperson said. "ICE law enforcement officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The driver then weaponized his vehicle and struck an officer resulting in the officer discharging his weapon. The driver fled the scene and remains at-large."
The local police are currently conducting their own investigation and have provided their own statement.
"The agent reportedly sustained unknown injuries," police said. "There is no reason to believe there is any concern for the public's safety."
During a January 2026 immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis, federal ICE agent opened fire on an SUV driven by Renee Nicole Good after she positioned her vehicle sideways across a street to observe the raid.
Trump administration officials defended the agent’s actions, maintaining that he acted strictly in self-defense when Good put the vehicle in motion and moved toward him.
Pro-law enforcement advocates emphasized that the agent—who had previously suffered severe injuries after being dragged by a fleeing suspect's vehicle during a prior traffic stop—faced a dangerous, non-compliant situation that put his life at risk.
More details are expected to emerge from this incident, and we will provide updates as necessary.
